They still sound like Robert Mitchum. His voice in that film is as haunting as anything.

Maybe but she nailed the effects of climate change and atomized community before anyone else did.

Never liked Andy Dick even when he was popular so it’s good to feel perpetually vindicated.

Hope for all of us yearning lesbians everywhere. I just sacrificed three extra hours of sleep because a jaw-droppingly beautiful woman sat next to me as I was about to leave this lesbian bar and asked me about my job.

We have to recover our sense of differentiating between good and bad faith. It’s making people lose it.

From one of her songs... "They put up chain-link fences underneath the biggest bridges They pose in Christmas cards with guns as big as all their children They say that Jesus is the way, but then they gave him a white face So they don't have to pray to someone they deem lesser than them"

Bottom line is the same with everything (and I’ve had this argument with pastoral colleagues too when they patronize/condescend houseless or impoverished people): a person’s dignity is their business. You love them for who they are. You don’t need to “validate“ them. No one needs that.

Reed has a prominent place in trans journalism. That should be questioned. Can it be questioned without it being personal? Y'all need to remember that.

Y'all didn't learn much about Last Ditch, did ya? Queer community in-fighting packaged to draw yuk yuks and tut tuts from straight people. WTF do you think is gonna happen if this breaks contain? The Secretary of War just called us a slur in public and gets to keep his job.

I loved Carved Bark and it inspired me to seek out Kay Gabriel's work, which is amazing. Back in February, I started noticing getting attention from men and it left me with weird, contradictory feelings (still does but I at least understand them now). Both your piece and Kay's helped me a lot.

She was amazing in Mother Mary, a movie only I and three other people love but we do so with our souls. She was enjoyable earnest in the otherwise forgettable Devil Wears Prada 2.

In my ignorance, I assumed pre-parenting that the carrier would be the easiest thing in the world and I, a cisman at the time and proud of my manly feminism, would be able to do it no problem. Whoops!

Allison Whitney @allisonwhitney.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Exactly. There were plenty of times when my wife or I were like "I'll just do it" cuz it was easier to do the busy activity with it on rather than waste time un/re-strapping.

The part about her taking him to the game because his friend just died…people seriously need to log tf off. Also, as someone who once wore a carrier, it’s often easier just to keep it on and run errands cuz the process of taking those off is cumbersome.

Aside from Esposito’s performance, the thing I think about when Breaking Bad (the number 1 show on the Times list) crosses my mind is Anna Gunn’s op-ed asking men to please not be misogynistic dickheads towards her character. web.archive.org/web/20140115...

What I love about Talia’s writing the most, whether I agree or disagree, is she starts from the point of loving women. Loving womanhood. That love is my gender as much as it is my sex. This was almost as cathartic as the movie itself.
So I'm glad to see a love story between a woman and her mirror, for once. To let myself get lost in the primal, libidinal experience of admiring your own reflection, of liking what you see so much you can't help but want to sink into her. I love women, including myself, though I love the woman I see reflected in my lovers' eyes most of
all.
More of you should try it. It fucking rules.

It’s why I do not apologize for crying every time I read sapphic fiction!!! It’s also why I think lesbians who constantly make “haha lesbian” jokes are doing more harm than good (hello W Massachusettes lez bar) but Another Story Another Day.
We still struggle with the idea that a woman who desires—let alone a woman who desires women—is gauche, bad, “cringe” to depict. Most critiques of romance books and “chicklit” such as Twilight or 50 Shades are less grounded in that genre’s unrepentant conservatism and more a misogynistic impulse to punish female expressions of sexuality. Even when they are perfectly clean-cut, hyperfeminine, heterosexual expressions. Wish fulfilment for women is invariably interpreted as writing about perfect individuals who desire us in exactly the ways we want, rather than being that individual expressing desire in harsh, uncompromising, imperfect ways.

Because if we do that, all we’re doing is “writing a man and changing the pronouns”—a strange charge, but one yet often levied.

Allison Whitney @allisonwhitney.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
There’s a reason why Brat cracked so many eggs.
Feminism's alleged fixation on policing desire is the result of the policing of women's desire as a whole, the result of women being equally envied and pathologized and celebrated and abhorred for being desired, being sexual, being sex. Put a mirror in her hand and call it "vanity" — but what is someone, who knows that the sum of her worth is in the eyes of others, supposed to be but vain? How is she to disentangle the Gordian knot, wade through the toxic miasma of wanting to be at once desired and freed from the shackles
of desire? What does it mean to want and be wanted in a world where wanting is anathema, and being wanted the very source of our Confinement?

I’m a femme4femme gal myself but this is an excellent point.
This is also a tension that seems to plague lesbians just as much as it does straight women, if not more. After all, the idea that sex between a masculine and a feminine woman-or sex between women that involves a strap-on, or involves any kind of penetration, even with tongues and fingers—isn't lesbian sex, didn't arise in a vacuum. It stems primarily from the psyche-splitting paradox that is, in and of itself, lesbian existence: sexuality void of men and manhood, the domain of men invoked and exercised in a realm free of men entirely. Is a butch not, fundamentally, a man? Is desire for the masculine by the feminine, even between masculine and feminine women, not inherently a
heterosexual desire?
And other assorted nonsense.

I wouldn’t have understood this feeling without estradiol!
To be a woman, a man, or neither, is to be caught between every contradictory maxim laid at our feet by an indifferent, unfeeling social order whose only concern is to reproduce itself. It cares not for the impossibility of desiring without wanting to be desired, for the contradiction that lays bare how wanting to be desired is, in itself, a desire-this is the script,
and these are our roles. Perform or perish.
Well, sometimes the little death is preferable.
1182
Allison Whitney @allisonwhitney.bsky.social · 25/09/2026
Yep
We are all aware of what propriety is, what the shape of appropriate, acceptable desire looks like in a patriarchal culture. Desire and sex is the domain of those designated men, those encouraged to objectify and extract and consume, those who construct their identities through the subordination of everything considered beneath them. Wink, wink. Meanwhile, those designated women must be both coy and seductive, both the unblemished, innocent, nubile ingénue outwardly and the precocious, alluring siren who knows exactly what she's doing behind closed
doors. Madonna and whore all at once.
It's all terribly, mind-numbingly dull, isn't it?

This isn't an excuse for Parker to post shitty stuff. It's not an excuse for me to be shitty either! But it's why I keep saying what I'm saying about trans people: leave us alone. Leave. Us. Alone. If one of us sucks online, block/mute and move tf on. If I can do it, you can do it.

My body has never responded well to testosterone. Even the methods to get my T back to the level of a functioning human still takes a lot out of me. I tried to stretch an estradiol patch last year and went an extra day by accident. I got stuck at a 3-hour church service and was MISERABLE. It sucks

Yes and yes. Having been in a similar situation in a queer space, I find this all sadly familiar . Like...the impoverished bar owner living out of their vehicle is not your enemy, even if she didn't use the best language (I guess? I'm not gonna wade into Mask Discourse again, it's 20fucking26).
