I have room for a new fractional VP of Engineering client this fall. Growing tech companies where engineering has scaled faster than its leadership structure. I make eng visible, build processes that scale, develop managers and turn circling conversations into decisions. Something you need? DM me.

Business development can be fun! On October 10th I'm sponsoring the DC Pickle Bash — and I'll be talking about The AI Pickle at my booth. It's EVERYTHING pickles (pickle drinks, pickle stories, pickle crafts, pickle pet costumes, pickle eating contest) and not to be missed. dcpicklebash.com

A hill I'll die on: the offsite you loved probably sucked. Inside jokes and good vibes aren't outcomes. Ask what survives Monday, how the next conflict gets handled or if that great feeling lasted. That's the real measure, not offsite high. Let's talk: daydreamsinruby.com/offsites-and...

Honored to be featured in US Reporter on AI. The hard part was never writing the plan, it was getting people to commit to it. That's what AI can't do. Read the full article here: usreporter.com/ai-is-changi... Thank you Dreamers & Doers for helping make this feature possible!

Read a quote recently about broccoli being like meetings: widely disliked, good for us anyway. But there's a wide gap between soggy boiled broccoli and sautéed broccoli seasoned simply but perfectly. You want your meetings to be the latter. Just because it's good for us doesn’t mean it has to suck.

The sandwich generation is real: kids, aging parents, demanding careers, all at once. I wrote about this a couple of months ago in Mother.ly: mother.ly/career-money... And the best reminder Dr. Indira Henard said: "Put yourself on your to do list." Because if it's not on the list, it won't get done.

Parents are overwhelmed by AI not because they can't handle it, but because the information is constant, contradictory, and changing fast. Hard to talk to your kids about something you don't feel like you understand yourself. If you're trying to figure out your stance, I'm happy to chat.

I’m so tired of talking about AI AND ALSO I’m having such fascinating conversations about AI. Two things can be true. AI is everywhere in my conversations. And I love that but I also hate it. I'm not here to be an AI hype girly and also, you can do some really freaking cool things with it.

Offsite in the next 6 weeks? Quick check: Do you know the agenda yet? How much pre-reading will land 48 hours before? Is your camaraderie activity just cool or will it meaningfully help different people have fun? How many slide presentations are planned? If any of these made you wince let's talk.

There’s a pretty common saying right now that you won’t lose your job to AI but you’ll lose your job to someone who knows how to use/leverage AI. I wrote recently about how AI is changing how you do your job and how to think about tasks. Check it out here: daydreamsinruby.com/blog/2026-04...

71% of professionals believe AI will eliminate more jobs than it creates. Only 20% are worried about their own job. People expect the disruption, they just don't think it'll happen to them. The worst thing you can do is more cheerleading. Name the fear. Then invest in your people.

In Gallup's 2026 report 65% of workers say AI boosted their individual productivity. Only 12% say it transformed how work gets done in their org. Individual lift, org flatline. The gap closes with managers: employees with active manager support are 8.7x more likely to say AI transformed their work.

Manager engagement dropped 9 points since 2022. They're now about as engaged as the people they manage. Wider spans, fewer peers, same expectation to hold everything together. Managers are usually the first investment cut and the last group given real development. That's the problem.

Allie_p @alliep.bsky.social · 30/07/2026
Manager engagement is in continued global decline, but Gallup found within best-practice orgs 79% of managers were engaged, nearly 4x the global average. Same labor market. Same AI disruption. The difference isn't conditions. It's whether leadership decided this actually matters and built around it.

Global engagement hit 20% in 2025, its lowest since 2020. Most teams respond with a survey or a happy hour. But engagement isn't built in a single event. It's built on random Tuesdays: priorities people can repeat, clear decision rights, feedback loops that actually close. Source: Gallup 2026 report

It's summer camp drop-off day so basically I’m a mess. Sleepaway camp is good for them, but I'm nervous. Meanwhile, as a busy working mom I have a lot planned. "Can't we just promote someone internally?" Maybe! But do they already know how to build a roadmap, design interviews, coach managers? If not, that's a reason to bridge the gap while they grow into it. Fractional support handles what needs doing now and mentors your person so they're ready later.

Today I found a single glove in this pile. (Yes. This pile.) This is the school lost and found. Hundreds of items, no system, no labels, sloped into one heap that everyone walks past because where would you even start. And I found the glove. Honestly? Unstoppable now. Send me your hardest problems.

A lot of CEOs are convinced AI is the solution. And honestly? It might be. But there's a big gap between "AI is the answer" and actually getting there. The answer isn't to resist AI. It's to stay honest about what it actually takes, and flexible because the ground is still shifting.

I've been running a lot of AI workshops lately and I love it. People walk in overwhelmed, skeptical or spooked, then they get hands-on and the switch flips: “ooo, ok, NOW I get it." Most people don't need more AI info. They need one small, successful loop with a real task. Fear turns into curiosity.

The most common reaction to bringing in a facilitator for team offsites: "I'll never get budget approved." Your leadership team doesn't think twice about spending this money. The key is making the business case and if you're not sure how to do that for your specific manager, I'm happy to help.
