At the Alliance, we believe in a comprehensive and equitable approach to health care, including mental health and wellbeing. Everyone, especially those facing greater barriers to accessing health care and mental health care, should be able to access care and support for their mental health.

Mental health can have a strong impact on health outcomes and quality of life. Social stigma and misinformation around mental health is a deterrent to anyone seeking proper care and can create barriers to accessing equitable, timely care.

One can experience poor mental health without having a diagnosed mental illness, and a person with a mental illness can still experience good mental health with proper care and support.

With this understanding, recovery is not a static destination or a universal goal; it is an ongoing, self-determined health journey along the spectrum.

Alliance for Healthier Communities @allianceon.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Every September, #RecoveryMonth is nationally observed to raise awareness regarding substance use health and honor everyone along the spectrum. The substance use health spectrum recognizes that every person exists on a continuum where substance use carries both risks and benefits.
Recovery Month
Substance use health is a broad spectrum where everyone has a place. It is deeply intertwined with physical and mental wellbeing, and must be addressed as such in order to build healtheir communities where everyone receives equitable support and care.
