This proposed rule is yet another extreme anti-immigrant move. It punishes citizens and families—undocumented people are already ineligible for housing assistance. There's still time to fight it, and we'll be rallying Bay Area partners to do just that in the days and weeks to come.

Community Advisory Council member Anthony Carrasco took the homelessness funding fight to The Tennessean, framing it as a constitutional issue and urging Congress to act. And it worked. Lawmakers safeguarded CoC funds. Read the op-ed here: tennessean.com/story/opinio...

Crystal faced a negligent landlord. Angelo faced skyrocketing rent. Both were at risk of homelessness, until they found Keep People Housed–Oakland. Since 2018, the program has supported 7k+ households, with 93% still housed a year later. 🏡 Prevention works. 💪🏼

A heck of a chart: in every single one of the 10 major US cities that built the most housing between 2017 and 2023, rents for older, existing units fell—often by quite a bit.

HUD withdrew the CoC NOFO—but the threat to federal homelessness funding isn’t over. We’ve created two new resources to help stakeholders understand what’s coming and what’s at stake: • A CoC NOFO fact sheet • A regional data spotlight with interactive maps

All Home's Brett Andrews’ op-ed still rings true: “It’s a deeply destabilizing change that could immediately drive hundreds of thousands of Americans into crisis.” HUD withdrew the NOFO, but the threat remains. 🔗 www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/open...

Huge cuts to homelessness funding are coming just as California has started to make progress
OPINION: Just when years of effort and investment to address homelessness have begun to yield measurable results, the Trump administration is poised to erase our progress in California.

New policy changes under President Donald Trump would fund only 30% of the existing, roughly 6,800 homes for people exiting homelessness in the Bay Area that are currently funded through HUD.

"Homelessness is absolutely solvable, but not if we defund our most effective solutions." New data from the Terner Center shows how disastrous new rules for federal funding will impact every CA homelessness response system. @sfchronicle.com www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/open...

Homelessness won’t end with bans or criminalization. It ends with outreach. It ends with supportive services. It ends with affordable housing. That’s what SB 634 is about. Sign #SB634, @governor.ca.gov! tinyurl.com/4nyschsr

Opinion |Cities that ban or criminalize homeless services worsen California’s crisis
A bill on the governor’s desk would stop cities from chasing away supportive services and workers who help unhoused people survive the streets.
