felt like drawing myself a profile picture. ✍🏻🖊️📝
a photo of my new hand-drawn profile picture (a cartoon-like self-portrait of me wearing a black mask) on my desk & the various pens, markers, and pencil I used to draw it.

the last residential school closed in "Canada" between 1995-97. for reference, Pokémon was released in 1996. so yes, every. single. one.
White text on black background reads "Every Single One of Your Indigenous Friends are Either a Residential School Survivor, a Survivor's Child, a Survivor's Grandchild, OR All Three. Every Single One."
at the bottom of the image are two silhouettes in orange of children with braids and feathers in their hair.

Na Wahine Koi & the lahui mobilized to get 2 helicopters full of supplies to set up a hub in an area made inaccessible by Storm Lala, and continue to organize food, supplies, and more to be immediately brought to those in need. www.instagram.com/p/DcTE2IYm6Z...

My brain still cant fully wrap around it all yet. Mahalo always for trusting me 2 do this work lahui. Luv u 4ever kaʻū.screenshot from a video in the linked post showing multiple people moving containers full of supplies for an area that was cut off by Storm Lala, brought in on two helicopters (visible behind the people).

Storm Lala has passed by leaving chaos in her wake, Moke is currently passing, and more storms are building up behind that as Hawaii Island areas are still without power & working on recovery.

multiple areas on Hawaii Island have been without power since the 15th of August. folks in areas like Ka'u were already working to recover from the effects of the Kona Low storms earlier this year, and are now reeling under the effects of Storm Lala while more storms build up.

the inevitable passing of time means my next birthday is almost here. Leo season ♌ 🤩
an image that includes a piece of newspaper beside a green-toned hand/fingers holding a severed eyeball with the words "SHOCK" and "AHHHH!" around it, and I have added the words "It is my birthday this week??" over the newspaper clipping.

unfortunately, Brenton Awa sucks.
screenshot of kristasurfshawaii IG story showing a photo of Lani the Lahaina monk seal with a caption reading:

Please stop sending me / sharing Brenton Awa's performative BS about the monk seal. He's anti-vaxx, MAGA/MAHA, transphobic and got himself fired from KITV for threatening coworkers and throwing a chair. He bragged about his governing style being similar to Trump - he's a joke!

Reminder to other haoles - white fragility has no space in kanaka spaces. you/we gotta deal with that on our own time & NOT perpetuate colonial extractive exploitation mentality. Hawaii is for Hawaiians, not your profit. support what kanaka are doing, LISTEN to kanaka, or like MKT says - beat it.
IG story post from moonkinetingz:
Ya. Woke up today absolutely past my threshold of haole shit. Y'all can all fucking BEAT IT.

FYI on the person moonkinetingz is calling out here, who poses as/lets folks assume they are Hawaiian (by using Hawaiian language, etc) & profits from that while perpetuating colonial extractive white savior bullshit. 🤢🤮
IG story post from moonkinetingz:
Woke up'nd felt like reminding everyone @maui_grown_organics (i cant tag her cuz she blocked me of course) is one lying haole that USES hawaii & her people to get herself ahead. That infiltrates HAWAIIAN spaces and then attacks our own people.

I dont fuck with people that condone that kind of behavior in our kanaka safe spaces. It really is that deep.

Someone come get ur dumbass haole friendIG story post from moonkinetingz:
I going tack one sign up at the puuhonua
of all u haole fakaz that came and ATE our food and sang OUR songs we taught you and BENEFITTED hugely from the space and pilina
just to turn around and BITE the hand that fed you. Cuz ur white fragility was at stake.
so EVERYONE knows the extractive PILAU SHIT you do

I'm not judging the kids as much as I am judging the parents. This is important information - regardless of gender, the students should know when and where their tests are being conducted! Especially teens taking AP courses.

How are none of you not deeply embarrassed that the child you raised can’t even be bothered to keep up with basic information about their own responsibilities?

There’s an important test tomorrow at my son’s school and my moms thread today is basically just all of the boy moms mining all of the girl moms for any information about what’s actually going on and what time we need to be where - because none of the boys actually know!! 😅

do not give in to hopelessness & doomerism.
screenshot of post by @thetolerentweft: "hopelessness is tempting. look at Cubans fighting a 50-year blockade, Palestinians holding the line since 1948 Nakba. there's always a world to win, and no good reason not to keep going for it" (quoting a post by DanMKervick saying "I don't see any way out of this for the US").

screenshot of a post by @LunaOi_VN: This decline of the West will ultimately lead to a better world... but living through it is going to be rough.

screenshot of a post by @mxnmartini: "doomerism does nothing for no one and it especially doesn't help the movement towards liberation. if anything, not that it feels like there's no time left, what else is there to do but to love, shout it endlessly, and fight."

"all the characters that are implied to be variously nonhuman by the story are different than the human characters in various ways. this is obviously a technical error made by the artist and not a deliberate choice made to show the audience said differences." 👀
Through this stylistic choice, audiences are able to compare and contrast and see characters in a different light, both figuratively and literally. - From Wikipedia

There are still multiple airborne viruses circulating. As individuals we don't get to pretend we don't also have personal responsibility to the community around us. We can reduce the harm & stop the viruses from evolving as well as protect ourselves. Wear a mask. 😷
white letters on a pink background read "FYI: washing your hands isn't enough to protect you from airborne viruses." around the words are images of strawberries, cherries, hearts, and two cartoon style cat faces wearing face masks.
