Ideally, it should cover charcuterie as well. US charcuterie, burdened by USDA rules, suffers from slightly too much acidity.

Found the perfect use of a 1 inch cube of copper.
On my bookshelf, a reproduction of one of the Sumerian male worshipers of the Tell Asmar hoard, with long beard and crossed arms, and in front of him, a 1-inch cube of copper with its atomic element number, Cu chemical symbol, density and melting point. Meant to reference a certain famous copper salesman.

But Threads sucks. You get a ton of likes to any post but no significant engagement. It's even worse than XTwitter.

That turned out to be a mistake based on his latest post. He deleted the one above.
Wherein Ken wrote: "Recently popped over to post “scrying” based on a silly dispute I heard about that annoyed me only to discover to my dismay that Meta has been posting my Facebook feed here without my knowing. WTF" followed by deleting some travel posts.

Reminds me of my favorite really dumb chemistry bar joke. Guy goes into a bar, bartender asks what are you having. "Pint of H2O!" he downs it, so refreshing. Bartender asks second guy. He replies, "pint of H2O too!" ...

I was in Kerrville last week, and man, it felt like east TX with the humidity! Temps were lower, but man it was sultry.

I'm in Dallas. There is no perfect summer day. We're just suffering until October. But a good day is when a big thunderstorm rolls in, drops the temp 20 degrees. That first petrichor scent, the fierce low-pressure winds, and dogs running around the yard happily.

I just think it's one more way AI is poisoning the whole Internet, by infecting secondary sources. The Snippet thing is several years old, though, and predates AI. But now people talking about AI answers get funneled into "authoritative" answers.
010
Allen Garvin @allengarvin.bsky.social · 25/05/2026
Though, this is the weird part: It's a Google Snippet, not Google AI. Google Snippets repeat what's said in a webpage, this time about a Reddit post about Google AI getting the answer wrong some time in the past. So even if the AI is fixed, the snippet lives on because it's popular!

Possibly worse: fly open... and tail of shirt sticking out of it. Everyone noticed but no one said anything and were snickering about it but finally at around 11:30am a kind, empathetic coworker was nice enough send a chat msg "Check your fly".

I'm not certain about "c**k[]sucker". Does the [] indicate a space or does it indicate the proper orthography, presumably from authoritative sources, is to not include a space?

"singlehandedly" I wouldn't give him that much credit for all of Europe. He was a relatively minor player outside of "Germany" in the counter-revolutionary pushback in 1848-9. He had little to do with with the crushing of Hungarian independence, Baltic nationalism, or the debacle in Italy.

From the news today, I have to thank the stars I wasn't this guy, one Mr. "Spillman":
US secret service officer named John, er, em..... "Spillman", arrested for masturbating in a hotel at a Trump event.

I was 10 years old in that season of SNL. Some people suffer from names for a lifetime, so I really can't complain, but I did suffer for a while. At least it didn't reoccur year after year.

I had one of those. But I gave away all my toys around 2003 to a friend whose kid had become SW obsessed. I always thought the TIE fighter with detachable sides was the far more fun toy.

My parents bought me a plastic Star Wars breakfast bowl... no idea if it was officially licensed. Might have been in either 77 or 78. Little illustrations around the edge. First time it went thru the dishwasher it warped and wouldn't hold milk any more!

I was bored during the pandemic. As an experiment, I attached Mr Potato Head pieces to a bunch of potatoes I left in the cabinet untouched for a month. This was one of the best:
A potato with Mr Potato Head muscular arms, big ears, and a nose pushed out of shape by the roots growing on it.

Kinda feel like SMBC did this concept better....
Scientist exiting a time travel machine. First scientist: "How was your first time travel." Her: Great! I went back and changed things so that the word 'eight' is now pronounced sodomized." First: "I don't get it, why?" Second: "Why was six afraid of seven". First: "Because seven ...."

(consternated look) and then "Well played"

Also, partisan elections, unlike most states with judicial elections. And it's awfully common for many rural courts to have no Democratic nominee at all. Often it's just a Republican and a Libertarian.

Reminded of this comment from NYT in December when the word was MYRRH:
WordleBot review of play:
Skill 99/99
Luck 99/99

HYMEN is a decent opening word, and a distinctive one! (Today it was played by less than 0.1% of players.) And it was extraordinarily lucky today. You’ve eliminated all but one of the words in my dictionary: MYRRH.

My life hack for saving money was unsubscribing to the WaPost after they fired all their reporters and started publishing articles that make BuzzFeed look like pullitzer-level journalism! (Though, I subscribed to Bloomberg immediately after and that's more expensive. I'm not great with money.)

I'm mainly a viol player. We do have several makers in the US and Canada, but a friend has recommended a Netherlands maker and I want to get a smaller tenor, tuned as an alto (bottom string A). I'm in limbo because I'm afraid at any moment Trump might impose a 200% tariff!

This class description... is a little embarrassing.
2nd period class at Conclave this summer taught by Wendy Gillespie, where she says of Robert Dow's partbooks (late 1570s, (Christ Church, Mus. MSS 984–988): "The Dow Part Books are a curated collection of beautifully copied polyphony from the hand of Robert Dow, the Allen Garvin of his day."
