Pink Floyd's ‘Cymbaline’ (1969) is one of the overlooked gems of their early catalogue. Written by Roger Waters, sung beautifully by David Gilmour, and steeped in an atmosphere of creeping unease. Dreamlike, haunting and unmistakably Floyd. A remarkable piece of music.

Inoki thought the locals shouting at him to stop and get out of the river were cheering him on as he did not understand their language. He arrived safely on the other side and continued with the opening celebrations. (2)

The opening ceremony of the MMA event 'Jungle Fight' in Brazil, Antonio Inoki decided to swim across the Amazon river to arrive at the venue in an interesting way. What he didn't realise was that the section of the river was filled with crocodiles and piranhas. (1)

New Year's Eve, 2000. Antonio Inoki sees out the year by slapping his way through a queue of around 100 people at Inoki Bom-Ba-Ye in the Osaka Dome. Fans and wrestlers alike line up for his famous tōkon slap, a symbolic way of passing on his fighting spirit.

It's a shame it's too late to add PAC on to the Hall Of Fame Ballot for the 2026 class. His candidacy was under our noses this whole time, but it took him passing for many of us to realise it.

"The announcer is the most important part of the show. That’s why people watch wrestling. They wanna watch a good match. They also wanna listen to one. The TV isn't only viewing, it’s also hearing, so it must be appealing in both senses" - Terry Funk

#OnThisDay in 2017: Legendary wrestling announcer/commentator Lance Russell passed away at the age of 91 due to complications from a broken hip. In my humble opinion, Lance was the greatest wrestling announcer of all time. RIP.

Since WWE's trying to exploit PAC's death, it's time to talk about this: Remember how PAC suddenly had visa issues when AEW started? That's because, when the AEW trademarks were filed, WWE called USCIS to claim he walked out on his visa. After leaving him alone for a year and giving him his release.

#OnThisDay in 1975: Stan Hansen wrestled his first match in Japan. At Korakuen Hall, the 26-year-old teamed with Bobby Jaggers, losing to The Destroyer & Anton Geesink when Geesink submitted Hansen. Japan would define Hansen's career.

George Gordienko at work. One of wrestling’s finest legitimate heavyweights was also a lifelong artist, studying at St Martin’s in London while still wrestling. He later recalled meeting Picasso in Paris, where the two shared coffee, with Picasso insisting on paying.

The Mummy, portrayed by Colombian wrestler Benji Ramírez. Introduced in Texas in 1961, Ramírez wrestled in a white mask, long hair and a body wrapped in bandages, presented as a mummy revived in the modern world. The gimmick was devised by Houston promoter Morris Sigel.

Big Daddy receives a medal from Princess Michael of Kent. By the 1980s, Shirley Crabtree had become far more than a wrestler. He was one of British television’s most recognisable personalities, appearing at celebrity and charity events well beyond the wrestling halls.

Leroy McGuirk and Ed “Strangler” Lewis. By this stage, two of wrestling’s great champions were both blind. McGuirk lost the sight in his remaining eye following a 1950 car accident, while Lewis suffered for years from trachoma and eventually became completely blind.

One of those things that breaks your brain: the 6:05 JCP/NWA theme was “Dynamics” by Richard Harvey, a KPM library track from 1981. Used on TBS World Championship Wrestling from 1982–87, hearing it carry on past the familiar first 53 seconds feels completely wrong.
