Not at all new, but have you read O Caledonia by Elspeth Barker?

I feel like anything by Douglas Stuart would do

I just found this out, too! Do you also listen to The Allusionist?

Toil and Trouble @alixmiddlec.bsky.social · 25/09/2026

Just learned a new word - "alexinomia" According to @allusionistshow.bsky.social, and alexinomia.org, I seem to have a fairly textbook case of this. Fascinating! And comforting to learn I'm not alone in my specific anxieties.

Also tail appears (?? unclear) to be white with black tips, another distinguishing feature

The wing coloring is what makes me think rough-legged hawk. Only local raptor I could find with that white “swoop” pattern and back wing tips

Blurry image of raptor in flight - can see a bit of the leg feathers and wing pattern

Looks like maybe a rough-legged hawk?

Then you might enjoy this, if you haven’t heard it before

All I know is the title, but as soon as it showed up on Libro.fm, I preordered it. 🌈 💵 🩷

Video of a deer chasing after a bobcat? I love the little trip-trop of hooves 🥰

“All y’all” is just such a sensory pleasure to say, as well.

I lived in SW Oklahoma for three years as a kid. Y’all comes naturally to me, though I do use it more “on purpose” now than when it used to just slip out occasionally.

I’m going to see her in September, I can’t wait! The last time I saw her live was over 20 years ago!

Is that similar to “thin, villainous lips?”

Half the planet is having a massive fight about how to correctly interpret an Ancient Greek poem but go ahead, close some more humanities departments.

My 'Eat the Ones You Love' StoryGraph review: This one started off kind of shaky. A lot of “just you wait until you see what I do” and very YA vibes. But I’m glad I stuck it out cause it gets darker and the writing more confident. Fun book! Makes me want to rewatch Little Shop

And I only just discovered KJ Charles, but I can't wait to read all I can get my hands on. SO good, SO fun!

I *really* enjoyed 'The West Passage!' A medieval fever-dream - imagine 'Sir Gawain and the Green Knight' meets 'Gormenghast,' with a sprinkling of 'The Starving Saints.' It's admitttedly not for everyone, but it's VERY much FOR the ones it IS for, if that makes sense?

From GeekTyrant interview: [don’t know anything about them, just only thing I could find] “The Odyssey is not a historical document. But within the world of Greek myth, transness exists.” So, still unclear, maybe equivocating, but promising? eh? *shrug*

It might be their summer molt, and could be more pronounced or more common because of the heat wave?

This! A friend of mine lived in Ojai with no AC, and survived those HOT summers this way. For those interested, search “diy swamp cooler” - there are several inexpensive variations.
