Shame it wasn't sent in the 1970s.

Needs to be done. House price rises are unearned income, so use the existing CGT mechanism. House purchase price then, sold price now, divided by number of years.

Did you hear In Our Time the other day about the Garamantes? Fascinating civilisation that nobody has ever heard about

Great on the Jools Holland show a few days ago.

Been expecting it ever since those ex Tories joined. Remember UKIP. He likes to leave a party and start another one so he can collect donations all over again.

And when they do it again every 15 minutes after an ad break.

Is that England diagram correct? It only shows those seats that were contested, the total number of seats across England including those that were not contested is a very different picture.

For me it's the snarling face of Liz Kendall attacking the sick and disabled for benefit cuts and constantly mis-describing what PIP is for, followed by Sir KS and 'island of strangers'.

Another day of our political discourse wasted whilst the world burns around us.

Douglas Adams knew that. Anyone who wants to run the world should on no account be allowed to do so.

Sunak's deal. Negotiated by James Cleverly.

This is not the same list as the BBC was running with earlier. How many iterations are there?

Because it takes me, for a few seconds, into a well-observed other world.

Yawn. Really not an important issue.

Everybody knew he was sleazy. He was appointed BECAUSE he was sleazy and thus able to get close to Trump. They had things in common. Everybody Knew.

Alistair Tyrrell @alistairt.bsky.social · 08/03/2026
Note how Trump always comes out with anti UK rhetoric after speaking to, or in this case having dinner with, Farage.

Solution to fly tipping is longer opening hours and no fees at the council tip. At least we'd have the waste somewhere it could be dealt with. Would reduce costs overall. And no blokes checking your driving licence to confirm which county you live in!

Thanks for this. I have the Paul Auster New York Trilogy and loved that, so I will try these.

There's a bloke beside me on some work conference call. He just said 'I very strongly told him....' just wondering how that gets done.

Because back then it was all about abuse of girls. UK authorities sprang into action when it became about government and commercial secrets.

No he won't, as the Shadow Chancellor is a post owned by the Official Opposition not by some silly minority 'party'.
010
Alistair Tyrrell @alistairt.bsky.social · 16/02/2026
And all those recently defected Reform MPs such as Jenrick and Braverman can have their by-elections! Democracy wins.

Some great forensic journalism has been going on today, only about 15 years after the events in question.

Was Mandelson using his government email / blackberry device, and, were any of those doucments marked Secret? Just working out how long his jail sentence is goint to be.
020
Alistair Tyrrell @alistairt.bsky.social · 02/02/2026
Great work here. Do we know the privacy markings on those documents, does that matter? If they were 'secret' then he's going to jail surely.

Does he have to resign the mayoralty in order to run, or, only if he wins? Might labour end up losing both contests leaving Burnham out of politics?

Tipping Jenrick to be leader of Reform by the summer.

Alistair Tyrrell @alistairt.bsky.social · 15/01/2026
Oh ffs. He's the one who wrote the Lancaster House speech setting the hard Brexit red lines. Total chump.

The trouble with the British Right is that it has become the Far Right. Centre-right politicians are hard to find now.
010
Alistair Tyrrell @alistairt.bsky.social · 15/01/2026
Farage isn't going to stay in Reform with all these big beasts joining. Jenrick could lead Reform.
000
Alistair Tyrrell @alistairt.bsky.social · 15/01/2026
Will he now bend the knee to Farage?

I'd love to see Labour make the case for joining the CU and put it in the manifesto for the next Election. Make it the Big Idea and stop Reform / Conservatives dead in their tracks.

Funny how everyone opposes tax rises and then start complaining about the potholes and the NHS waiting lists.

I don't think our day to day bills are the issue. The big-picture issue is long term energy security and zero-carbon. The *only* sustainable future is renewables and perhaps some nuclear.

So we'll all have to have smartphones by then? Many people, including older / disabled / cognitively impaired, can't use them.

Laughing at the thought of the Tories, who gave us Boris Johnson, going on the attack over ministerial integrity.

By 'the country' he means France. Note how he does not say 'this country'. All the skilled nuclear tech jobs will be with EDF France. UK will get a small number of short term construction jobs.
