Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 03/09/2026perhaps we should deport the Normans, and Angles and the Saxons and give all the land, and wealth, back to the Celts. 010

Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 20/08/2026You'd need one of those "trigger warnings" before it, and a counselling hotline at the end. Meanwhile GBNews are demanding government ban it 040
Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 13/08/2026I'm confused: ‘Sometimes there is good reason for people to be prejudiced against certain groups’. If there is "good reason" to disfavour x, is it "prejudice". I thought the hallmark of prejudice was you exercised bigotry not reason. If I have "good reason" to disfavour MAGA loyalists...? 100

Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 26/07/2026But even those who may not share all your aims can still defend your right to march without violent disruption, and demand that freedom from violence, and for speech and for protest, are non-negotiable. 030
Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 18/07/2026If you've got that story, and want to at the same time go radical on one of the other areas, that can work. But otherwise: "it's the economy, stupid." 010
Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 18/07/2026What Labour need is a credible economic policy. I'm not sure that jiggling with constitution, foreign policy, or social/environmental issues, whatever their merits, can substitute for that. A story is needed: how we deal with low growth, high tax, debt, underinvestment, and demographic timebombs? 110

Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 14/05/2026Perhaps Farage can be bought off with the mayoralty of Manchester? 000

Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 14/05/2026His letter is a rhetorical and grammatical mess. I'm just glad he's not positioning to be Education Secretary. 041
Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 14/05/2026What have we learned about the Labour leadership today? Wes Streeting really can't write decent prose. His letter is a grammatical and rhetorical mess. Good job he isn't positioning to be education secretary. 011
Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 12/05/2026I can't help but feeling that it's pronounced Russ-ell To-vey 010
Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 12/05/2026Well, that initial prime ministerial press release went well. I think you'll last less than a Scaramucci 000
Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 12/05/2026We need a Prime Minister who will spend like Brown, tax cut like Thatcher, have the optimism of Callaghan, the charisma of Johnston, the modesty of Major, build the navy of Churchill with the fiscal prudence of Gladstone and the foreign policy Palmerston. So we're caught between a rock and a lettuce 010
Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 09/05/2026It's your choice. But, people voted for them. You need to consider those people. How do you convince them to change their mind, or to realise what they voted for? (And all parties need to look at themselves too - I almost didn't vote) 100
Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 09/05/2026Debate it, fight it, show it for what it is, but if the mainstream media repress it, it will simply go elsewhere. And we know, sadly, where that leads. 100
Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 09/05/2026When someone is elected to a representative parliament, I'd say any impartial media do now have to platform them. The mistake was platforming quixotic views from the margins when they weren't democratically representative (ie Farage in the past), but that ship has sailed. This is the new normal. 110
Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 09/05/2026I'm not sure who wrote her commentary on Genesis. Dan Brown? David Icke? 110
Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 09/05/2026Well, at least he's unlikely to be in those files. 010
Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 09/05/2026I'm not sure about a wrecking ball, I suspect more like a wave that comes in with sound and fury, underperforms, and then dissipates, leaving more disappointment than damage. I suspect this tide is already in retreat. 110
Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 08/05/2026It's not a PR system, it's D'Hondt (more FPTP than PR). If it were proper PR, the SNP would have around 45 MPs.. 000

Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 08/05/2026The UK General Election are only afforded because the BBC STV Sky etc all share the costs. I doubt that the Herald, Scotsman and the National could afford it. 020
Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 08/05/2026No. A combination of the fact they are hugely expensive, and that national swing wouldn't tell us much with the complexities of the electoral system (and number of parties) 110
Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 08/05/2026I challenged her, she said otherwise. (The rosette was, I regret to tell you, red) 010
Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 07/05/2026Obviously, you can still vote against the Heath Government at this Scottish Parliamentary election if you want? :/ 012
Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 07/05/2026I was surprised, when entering the polling station, that I was greeted by a woman with a party rosette, asking me my address, so she could direct me to the correct room. I didn't think that was allowed. At least she wasn't an ICE agent, I suppose. 200
Alistair May @alistairmay.bsky.social · 07/05/2026Our election system incentivises stupid, unaffordable, pledges. There's little disincentive, particularly if you won't be in power. If I were running, I'd double pensions, remove all duty on whisky, abolish Council tax, and outlaw chewing gum, and listening to youtube in public without headphones. 000
