Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 1hYou have all your lists, so you can do your regular shop, but also look at your "will need soon, buy them if they're on special" list and see - before you get to the shelf - if they're worth getting. Did my shop tonight in about 20 minutes, which is a definite improvement. 000
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 1hThe only thing that disappointed me about the self-scan on the trolley at woollies was the lack of integration with my lists - turns out, I'd just missed the fact that they're there! So you can bring up a list, and it'll direct you to each item, and cross them off as you scan them. 100
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 7hAs someone with adhd I'm getting hints of "in the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king" from this situation... 010
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 9hNext year, I'll try not to wait this long to have a break. At the end of the month, I'll know when the next FFXIV expansion is coming out, and I'll book some time for that, and then I'll try to book a week in autumn or winter. Maybe around my birthday... 000
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 9hHopefully I'll be able to get to sleep at a decent time again tonight, since I'm back to work tomorrow. I'm glad I took this time off. Kind of wish I could have had two weeks, but it's still been good. Hopefully it'll tide me over till the Xmas shutdown. 110
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 9hAt which point I tried to get up, and realised I'd gone stiff as a board. That was probably the most sleep I've had...maybe this year. But I slept heavy and deep enough that I hurt myself with it 🤦🏼♀️ 110
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 9hNo idea why. I was tired enough that I'd been falling asleep sitting up, I feel like I should have been out cold. But apart from staying up for a bit after the dream, I kept being able to get back to sleep, and I didn't wake completely till 9.30. 110
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 9hI was tired enough last night that I finally went to bed around midnight, instead of being up till the sun started to rise. I woke an hour after, with low key acid, but managed to get it under control and go back to sleep. But I kept waking up all night. 110
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 12hYeah, you'd be on my list of people I could go to for help with something like this *hugs* 110
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 16hYeah, this was not a cheap steak. But it did turn out well enough to be worth it! 000
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 17hI wish I had more of them, but I can accept rarity as long as it keeps coming with quality. I haven't been remembering a lot of dreams in general this year, so it's nice that these have been the most vivid and have stayed with me. #grief 010
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 17hI'd just been thinking last night that I wished Raq would haunt me. Dreams are a close next-best to haunting. Especially as long as my brain keeps acknowledging that they're gone/have been gone, so I can appreciate them as little gifts, not hate them for tormenting me with what I don't have. #grief 120
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 17hFunnily enough, I woke up as I was writing something on here about how life was weirder than I ever could have imagined, but that I was pretty damn lucky. From the way I was wording it, I can't tell which secret I was keeping from people online. #grief 110
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 17hAnd I was keeping their death a secret from the people who knew they were still here. I'm not entirely sure I hadn't spent some time keeping it a secret from Raq, even. I think they were some kind of zombie/undead, but it wasn't obvious. They were just, them. #grief 110
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 17hJust woke up from the oddest and kind of funniest dream I've had about Raq since they passed. They'd died, but they'd come back somehow - we hadn't figured out how/why/as what in any detail yet. I can't remember now exactly who knew what, but I know I was keeping them a secret from some. #grief 210
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Was still very good, and next time I can crank it a little higher. Ready for a post-dinner nap now 😂 110
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I thought I'd overcooked it, but apparently only the thinner side was medium rare, the thicker side was as rare as I like it. Could have stood to have the heat up higher for a better sear, but it's the first time I've made a steak in this pan, and I didn't want to risk scorching it. 110
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Every so often - maybe six months to a year apart - I'll have a random craving for steak. The latest one hit this week, so I picked up a nice scotch fillet. Today I picked up what I needed for sides, and I just had a very tasty steak and chips with veggies 😊 120
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 04/10/2026AND I bundled up all my recycling before I went and showered, so I could take it up with me when I went out, which means that Mum didn't have to wait for me to get mine sorted before she could do the bins, which means she's out there doing them now before it gets late, so she'll be pleased. 020
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Left things a little late, and I wasn't sure I'd be able to get it done, but I managed to shower, wash my hair, dress, and get down to the chemist before 4pm. Which meant I could then pick up some fresh veggies for dinner, and some fresh bread for this week. 110
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 04/10/2026But, also not as bad as it could have been. It made me go from tearing up to crying, but sometimes crying over a character is less painful. Or just, easier in a way. While still being cathartic. And the story keeps going, so it'll carry me away from the emotional part. #grief 020
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 04/10/2026I was starting to get emotional, and I needed to cut it off, so I put my audiobook back on, and the first thing it says to me is, "I miss her. I miss her so goddamn much. Is it worth it? To survive this place with her gone? No. No, I don’t think it is." Not, as helpful as it could have been. #grief 110
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I was looking at the tracking again today, and shortly afterwards I got an email from aliexpress telling me they've given me another coupon to apologise for the delay. So far, I've been given two coupons, for a total of slightly less than $2.50 🤨 010
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Daylight savings changes overnight. That means the time I get online to play ffxiv with friends tomorrow changes. It also means I'm crying now, because I always used to rely on Raq to help with this. I'm terrible at time conversion, I don't know why. But Raq could always tell me. #grief 020
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 03/10/2026It'd be nice if we got a peak year for Christmas beetles as well! 110
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 03/10/2026They're very chonky, so they would make a proper thump on a car, I'm sure. Mum went out to lunch the other day and there was someone with a dog sitting near them, and the dog was trying to eat all the moths 😂 000
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 03/10/2026It took them a few days to get inside, but we've had little clusters in the basement and hanging around the front door, and a few have made it into the rest of the house. 200
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 03/10/2026There's so many migrating right now that they've been showing up on the BOM radar in the evenings as they all take off and head south. It's the biggest year for them in ages. I had one rattling around my room while I was trying to sleep last night, mum found one in her water cup, and two in a shoe. 110
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Well, it's showing as customs completed, but I had a couple of days of a "Sorry, we're busy so there are delays" message on the page (again), and now that's gone (again), but there's still no further movement since September 25th. The original eta was September 12th to 22nd. And now it's October. 110
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 03/10/2026We currently seem to have a situation where her mindset has spread all the way to the top, and the Supreme Court isn't holding anyone to account anymore. If the government isn't following the rules, why should businesses? 000
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Back in 2015, County Clerk Kim Davis decided she didn't like the new same-sex marriage laws, and refused to issue licenses to same-sex couples. She was, eventually, ordered to comply, or at least not prevent others in her office from complying with the law. 100
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 03/10/2026They can do it in public now, and tell us what they're doing, and no one is stopping them...so why should they stop? 100
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 03/10/2026They've been doing it on smaller scales for decades - if you're one of a few hundred people who were screwed over by a bank, no one cares. It takes a few hundred thousand to get attention. But now they're starting to realise what they can get away with. 100
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 03/10/2026We struggle so much with large organisations crossing lines. We're still stuck on the idea that they wouldn't do that, because they'd never get away with it, but we let them get away with it when we assume that. 100
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 03/10/2026We have to hold "AI" and its users/creators to the same standards as everyone else. If an agent breaks into a website, treat it like we would if a hacker used a virus to do the same thing. Charge users if their use of AI breaks laws. Charge developers if they build software that will break laws. 100
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 03/10/2026The branding of all of this as "AI" irritates the hell out of me. There is no intelligence in the software, and often none behind the creation of it, either. A lot of "AI" right now would be labelled as copyright violation and viruses/malware if not for the marketing/branding behind it. 100
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 03/10/2026This site illustrates the importance of human intelligence in analysis - www.tylervigen.com/spurious-cor... Leave it to computers and correlation will be mistaken for causation, because they can only rely on patterns.tylervigen.comSpurious CorrelationsCorrelation is not causation: thousands of charts of real data showing actual correlations between ridiculous variables. 100
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Human intelligence is still required to identify the sources of data, to collect it, and then to consider the patterns and determine which ones are meaningful, which are true but irrelevant, and which are completely meaningless. 100
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 03/10/2026This is where it has value in science - feed it all current knowledge on a subject, from multiple fields, and it may flag correspondences and connections that are too widespread or complex to be easily spotted by a human. But again, not intelligent, just collation and arrangement of data. 100
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 03/10/2026It's also not intelligence - again, it draws on patterns and on what's done before. It can't create, it can only collate. The various ways this tech can be applied to data can be very useful when working with Big Data, because it speeds up analysis and helps us understand what we already "know". 110
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Also useful, but currently it's being set up to rely entirely on other people's data, which is theft. Set it up with only your own, legally owned data, and it has the potential to be a useful tool, but the cost will likely outweigh the value for most use cases. 100
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 03/10/2026LLM tech is very useful, but the ability to construct a sentence, or extract the keywords from a question, is not intelligence, it's pattern recognition and a massive database of language. Generative software models take large databases and arrange them in new ways to meet requests. 110
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I, shouldn't be surprised about the brownie, but I kind of am. I hope that's all it is, and it settles soon! 000
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 01/10/2026It's especially annoying, because I bought several interesting things to have for dinner over the next few nights, and I had to have something really plain and safe for dinner instead. I really hope I'm doing better tomorrow so I can have one of them. I'm trying to expand my dietary horizons again. 010
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I'm definitely going to sleep on my left. I prefer my right, but it's less safe for acid. On my back is technically safest for acid, but it's also absolutely terrible for snoring and waking up with a horribly dry mouth. If I wake up with even a hint of trouble, I'll be risking it. 110
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I was worried the coughing was ramping up to acid again, which would have been really weird, because it almost never gets me while I'm up and about. This version of reflux basically only happens when I'm asleep, normally. I'm a bit concerned about sleeping tonight... 110
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I've had either actual acid reflux, or the after-effects of it, basically all day. The acid backed off, for a lot of the day, but the burn from this morning's attack has lasted a ridiculously long time, and then while I was talking to Mum over dinner, it got irritated and I started coughing. 110
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Yeah, I don't get that. But then, I've always been very solidly *in* my body. How's R coping with all this? 000
Cow. Boy. Hat. @alisso.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Some people are really quite hard to help on this front, sadly. I hope they do all the tests while she's there. 100
