He's not wrong there. Nobody wants it.

So do I. I saw it when it came out without reading the reviews and wondered if I'd watched the same film when I did. I thought it was great.

Has he mentioned his ping pong career yet? He seems to find a way to drop it into pretty much every broadcast he does.

$7 a US gallon works out at about £1.40 a litre. We're paying around £2.05 a litre here now for diesel, or around $10.26 a US gallon. Thanks a bunch, America.

Ha. We have a very long-running radio drama (like over 75 years long-running) here called The Archers and a few years ago one of the characters scratched her hand on a rusty nail and died of sepsis and ngl, I've worn gloves for gardening ever since.

I suspect Harpenden has now gone full-in on London, due to the demise of TV aerials.

Alison M @alisonm.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
When I was a nipper in Herts, there was a dilemma as to whether it was better to point one's TV aerial towards Anglia (better reception, endless Look East stories about the Perkins diesel engine factory in Northampton, which might has well have been the moon) or London (terrible reception but cool)

By "US-backed" do you mean "puppet"?

You're also probably able to slaughter and cook a pig now so no need to learn how to order in a restaurant.

How does the UK State Pension measure up globally?
A global comparison of State Pension provision highlights the onus on individuals in the UK to build pension savings for their retirement, rather than leaving

They tried it in Brighton, may still be ongoing? I'm not sure about the logistics (not to mention the environmental consequences) of shipping thousands of kids 10 miles by bus when they have schools they can walk to. In cities in particular, where 10 miles could take an hour during rush hour.

You know, same way they wiggle out of all other scrutiny. Rely on the media's goldfish-level attention span until it moves on to the next thing.

Tbqh, one of the things I like most about my kids being away for uni is that I *don't* have to worry about where they are all the time. No lying awake waiting to hear the key in the door.

I remember one school trip when one of the parents was posting screenshots from M6 cameras showing the coach the kids were travelling in on their way south passing. I admired the dedication but ohboy. Decidedly odd.

Think yourselves lucky. Diesel is now over $10/gallon in the UK (£2 a litre) so thanks very much America for electing that buffoon.

My brother takes kids from disadvantaged backgrounds out sailing on the Solent, teaching them sailing skills. I don't imagine the volunteers, or the kids, will be happy to do that with the RNLI station shut. Like Brexit, taking away opportunities for young people doesn't seem to worry them at all

Hahaha. One of my pals does occasional tour guiding on small cruises for well-heeled culture vultures. He says it's exhausting because you have to be "on" from breakfast till bedtime, and because one of them might get lost.

Interesting. I'm doing a slow read of AS Byatt's The Children's Book on Substack at the moment and holes feature heavily in the folk tales inside the story. And in the plot in general, actually.

Who exactly is stopping them from slowing down? Certainly not the public, who largely dislike the effects it's having on the workplace and are suspicious of their methods and intentions. They're over-leveraged and reliant on unpaid labour for large parts of the business model (not just copyright).

Exactly. The *reason* they gave these obscene donations now is that they know they won't be able to do it if/when the legislation is passed.

Le Creuset are actually really good at replacing their pots. They give them a lifetime guarantee and if you send it back they will send you a new one (though the postage on a cast iron pot is likely to be about the same as buying a new one).

Don't know about this lot, but the lot I saw in Glasgow city centre a couple of weeks ago looked like they had an average age of about 15. I can't understand (well I can) why the police don't close it right down. It seems there's a definite lack of will.

Thanks. He did sound like he was particularly full of himself with his "if Nigel gets into number 10, you're talking to his Chief of Staff" schtick, so that may all have been hot air.

I didn't see the full C4 report but it looked like some of the clips mention by name other people who had donated in the same way (they were bleeped out in the BBC reporting, but that seemed to be what was bleeped, the names)?

Apart from anything else, it's grammatically useful. We use "youse" in some parts of the UK for the same thing. I would, however, like to introduce a long prison sentence for anyone using the word "whimsy"
