i've been thinking about the fact that nearly every crpg released in the past 25 years has been *directly* shaped by Fallout or Baldur's Gate or Planescape Torment and that not a lot really changed, which can be said about the rest of the medium. There fr were no big leaps since early 2000's

I've been thinking of how "good roleplaying value" in rpgs is usually described as letting the player doing whatever they want, but the problem is that the restrictions will always be there and I'm more interested in how the game can turn its restrictions into narrative advantage

#yup still the goat, it's genuinely amazing how its airtight focus, consistency and cohesion still make it feel fresh and better designed than a huge chunk of the entire genre, despite being nearly 30 years old. Aged perfectly aside from stupid ass interface. Glad I revisited it!
