It might be due to their lingering contract with Epic. Before Epic got... Quite as bad, they had exclusivity contracts on the Epic Games store, seemed to rush getting Control on Steam as fast as possible, and now just straight released to steam. So maybe their hands are tied somehow?

I also think puzzle games in general should have "you're wasting your time" hints built in. Not the character going "I should use my [mechanic]" But definitely "I don't think this will work without all its [puzzle piece implied to be missing]"

So, very random thought Every puzzle game walkthrough/help guide should have tiers of hints. In actual escape rooms, they will nudge you if you are COMPLETELY off track. There should be a hint that's just "you do need to get an extra puzzle piece to complete this". (1/?)
