Third party advertisers are generating $150 a month in revenue for a site that can raise hundreds of thousands a year from donations. This is just absolute proof that internet advertising has failed as a business model. Instead of capturing some of that revenue they're trying to content police.

To be clear, I don't care that GTA6 has objectionable content; it's fiction and it's art. What bothers me is that if a small, independent game studio tried to make a game with similar content, they would be persecuted by the finance industry.

I think a lot has been righteously said about furaffinity as a bastion of internet freedom, art, and a community space, but at least for me something unspoken as part of that last one is FA is an altar. It stands in memory of people we've lost through tragedy, accident, and neglect.

It is absolutely asinine that ad networks can declare drawings of fat people (for example) as adult content and strip us of funding for refusing to remove it from the site, but their advertisers can have downright RAUNCHY ads showing in general areas. Or they do NOTHING to curb malverts

That's definitely a question for the people who actually work for the site - I'm sure it's been discussed, but I'm also sure it means a bunch of extra regulations and hoops they'd have to jump through; the cost might be more than the gain on that.

FA is not a nonprofit, no. Having said that, if you use FA for posting your art, I would imagine you could possibly deduct an FA+ subscription as a business expense since it does unlock higher upload limits (I'm not a tax professional though).

An FA+ subscription is $5 a month. That's half the cost of a Discord Nitro full sub. According to the cost estimates in the journal, I did the math: If ~10,000 users (literally less than 1% of FA's ~1.2 million users) were subbed to FA+ every month, it would pretty much cover their costs.

Being at this little convention (about 1000 attendees) is making me feel really nostalgic for the way conventions were ~10-15 years ago. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we have big melting-pot cons like FWA and MFF, but this really feels like getting back in touch with some of the fandom's roots.

Also, if you want to help FA in other ways, unblocking our in-house (community) ads and interacting with them helps! Those are ads from your fellow artists and furry owned companies. My in-house beans are utterly unhinged (positive) sometimes, and they add to the ~*~culture~*~ of the site.

For better or worse, FA is an important repository of our community's history. In a world that is trying to erase our story, we can't afford to lose it.

You don't have to agree with every direction FA has taken. But losing Fur Affinity would legitimately be one of the most catastrophic things that could happen to the furry fandom. Literal decades of art, including much that can't be found anywhere else, gone. Get FA+ if you can.
