Haven’t been around for a while, but shit. As I’ve said, MN Nice has its limits, and it is very much Not Good when it becomes MN Not Nice. See 1st MN Volunteer Infantry.

I've had white in my hair and beard for decades, no big deal. But I just found my first white chest hair and this is just too much to deal with.

Being neurodivergent and having grown up reading SFF in the 90s I *cannot wait* to tell you all about the connection between berserkers and bears.

I had to think about there having to be "early" fans, because that implies there are "late" fans and oh my god have I really been quoting Army of Darkness for 30 years?

I just don't understand the need to tell trans people how to feel about politicians and their stances on trans issues.

What kind of 1950s world is she living in where its shameful for women to talk about bra purchases?

Oooo boy, I'd argue they're more neutral than lawful, which is more ethical anyway and makes Beartongue even more awesome.

Not even gender-nonconforming cis-women. I'm from MN; in high school I new girls hockey players who were totally feminine, but put them on the ice and they were fucking vicious. Should have played with the boys.

This is how I know anyone objecting to trans athletes isn't actually concerned about fairness of competition. No one is talking about trans-men. And there are plenty of cis-women athletes who could or should compete with men.

If there *is* a difference between genders in a sport, whatever that sport uses to measure performance is going to get distributed on a bell curve. One group of times/weights/whatever where "men" group and another where "women" group. Split them into groups A and B so the sport isn't dominated by

You're a trans-woman? Cool, here you go into this group of people who run at similar speeds to you.

Nathan @aliendog496.bsky.social · 15/08/2025
Segregating sports by gender is completely arbitrary and we should just do away with it completely and put people into competitive brackets based on actual performance criteria.

Top-level professional athletes are all biological freaks--they have larger lungs, their blood is better at carrying oxygen, their muscles are more efficient, whatever. I'll never be a professional cyclist, because my body will never be able to compete no matter how hard I train.

The way we move forward is by not electing anti-trans politicians at lower levels that allow them to use that to get elected to governorships or the presidency. Have to kill it at the root or we end up stuck with a choice between a bad Democrat or an even worse Republican.

Out of curiosity, which hadn't you noticed? That berserkers were bear-warriors or that Galen was a physician?

This is the problem when you have a brain like a packrat that is also a hoarder. Making connections that aren't there.

I said I could have pizza in my fantasy book. A few people told me that would derail them and make them think about how they got tomatoes, finely ground wheat, etc. Seriously. Fantasy world. I can do whatever I want!

Yesterday I was grabbing some boxes from behind the health good store when the door opened; I stepped aside to not get hit by the door and tripped over a wire fence with some wood trellises on it, knocked the fence over and fell with it all the way to the ground. So it's ok.

It would have been about 2nd grade, in the mid-80s, and I can't even remember the title or author. If I recall correctly it was about a boy who found and befriended an alien, bit like the Great Gazoo. Book itself must have been published sometime in the 1970s at least.

I like it. That would be handy. But in practice it would probably be used to arbitrarily judge the content for "age appropriateness" and banning books.

Great example is David Eddings. First read him in about 3rd grade. Loved the works for a long time. Now they're horribly racist, and David Eddings himself was a monstrous person.
