I think for certain brains, mixing those directions can be a bit painful and complicated, and as someone who thinks her pages' layouts and flow very intensly, the whole thing feels like a crazy puzzle

100

Alice Leclert @aliceleclert.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

Yes, exactly ! Thank you for being able to express my thoughts XD

010

Alice Leclert @aliceleclert.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

I guess I'm overthinking it. I have the reflex of reading the image within the panel the same direction as the text so it makes it awkward for me, but I suppose not everyone has that problem

100

Alice Leclert @aliceleclert.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

So do they also make the action go either way? We tend to try and keep the action moving in the readind direction. And do you move bubbles for dialogues ?

000

Alice Leclert @aliceleclert.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

Maybe I am ! The way I understood it is : if a comic page is drawn to be read from right to left, and the text is translated and to now be read from left to right, the action in the panel, and the page itself from panel to panel the text and images have a different direction.

Alice Leclert @aliceleclert.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

I'm not trying to lecture anyone o_O I'm just giving an opinion on what I'd like to see ??? Because I care about the craft and wonder about the complexity of translating that as well ?? I don't get why you're feeling offended by that. He asked, I answered with what I'd been thinking about

110

Alice Leclert @aliceleclert.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

You're asking a French comic book artist whether she's ever read a translated comic... And laying out pages is what I do for a living so yeah I think about that, the direction of the action, the way the reader is going to naturally read the images, and think it's important

100

Alice Leclert @aliceleclert.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

There's really no need to be condescending here. Whenever I read a translated manga, I stumble upon the issue I'm talking about. If that's not the case of all readers then good. As an artist I just find the shake up of the artist's plan a bit off-putting

100

Alice Leclert @aliceleclert.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

I'm talking about comics translated from a language that has a different reading direction...?

a pretty good way to gauge the conversation is whether people are talking about harm or risk harm is about what's happening now already risk is about what could maybe happen in the future and basically the whole ai cult scene is in agreement that possible risks are more important than current harm

Alice Leclert @aliceleclert.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

Why not? You don't think sticking to the direction the artist thought and built the action is a good idea? What about the order in which char. talk? We place them in panels according to that. Makes for an awkward read if you just translate: you read the text one way and the bubbles the other 🤔

100

Alice Leclert @aliceleclert.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

To be honest I'd flip the image. It doesn't make sense to me to ask people to read the images in one direction and the text in the other... However weird it'd feel to see one's drawing flipped... If the action is built one way but read the other, the whole job is off.
