#AlphabetChallenge #WeekMforMachinery #machinery Shepherd Wheel, #Sheffield. A historic water powered workshop, located in quiet woodland and sitting beside the Porter Brook, which was used up until the 1930s for ‘knife grinding’ to produce the sharp cutting edge of the knife.

#TeamMoth #insects #UKwildlife #pollinator #HummingbirdHawkMoth A Hummingbird Hawkmoth on the #Buddleja in the back garden in #Suffolk. They were on the lavender last year but with our new #ButterflyBush I have been able to see close up how they uncoil their proboscis when feeding on the nectar.

#wildflowerhour Didn’t need to go very far for this week’s challenge of #fruits. There are #blackberries, #haws and #elderberries in the hedgerow just behind my garden.

A migrant hawker dragonfly sitting on the speckled surface of a tarmac lane. It has a black abdomen mosaic-patterned with bright blue and brown spots. At the very top of its abdomen a yellow marking shaped like a golf tee is clearly visible. The thick thorax is a lighter brown with yellow markings. Its large head is dominated by two massive compound eyes with further yellow markings at the nose. Four clear, transparent wings, barely visible against the road surface, extend horizontally from its body.

A lightning bolt illuminates the night sky. Two twisted branches of light converge to form a shape reminiscent of a fire breathing dragon. At ground level an electricity pylon appears as if it were a tiny model beside a further bolt of lightning that seems to reach the ground. As now, there was no rain.

#AlphabetChallenge #WeekBforBehind #Dog A #photo from a #dogwalk in #Suffolk a little while ago. This was the first time our puppy had seen a #sunset. We were trying to #walk in the other direction but she kept turning back, sitting down, and gazing at glowing ball behind us.

In the forground a puppy faces away from the camera almost a silhouette against the darkening field that she is gazing across. Her fur is lit around the edges by an orange glow and her head is cocked as she tries to work out what the strange sight she is looking at could be. On the horizon the setting sun can be seen as a ball of yellow surrounded by layers of orange that darken as they get further away from the sun. To the right of the sun are the silhouettes of bare trees (this was January).
