Funny how writing journeys can be non-linear, but you have to adapt. I haven't found an agent for my urban fantasy, yet my romcoms have over 100K views on Wattpad, won a contest on Inkitt, and have over 100 paid subscribers on Patreon in 2 months. #amwriting #writingcommunity

Fiona, a Fate tasked with scheduling the lives & deaths of mortals to maintain the balance of light & dark, must track down a killer when the unscheduled body of a Chosen One lands on her best friend's doorstep & the worlds begin to break. #questpit #F #Q #MY

Slide #1 A Wayward Balance, my adult Fantasy Mystery
What You’ll Find Inside:
• Only one...human (she dies).
• Fate and death are desk jobs (death is a family business complete with nepotism).
• Chosen one...by application and interview (it’s a lengthy process).
• Death is framed for murder.
• A romantic slow burn so slow you might not even catch it!(i.e., an utter lack of romance despite the sparks my friend is absolutely determined she felt)
• Karma is a cat...shifter.
• Coffee, Mahjong, and cozy violence.
• Someone who would sacrifice themselves for everyone, and their best friend who is determined to keep that from happening (it’s complicated).

Slide #2 - The dreaded, yet required, One Paragraph pitch Fiona and Dahlia work tirelessly each day to ensure the balance of eight worlds remains intact. Every rule must be followed, every life and every death scheduled and accounted for, every Chosen One meticulously hand selected to save any world on the verge of collapse from a wayward balance—a breaking—when the scales have tipped too far for too long. When the current Chosen One is found murdered on Dahlia’s doorstep, the two friends must work together to prove Dahlia’s innocence before her life is forfeit to offset the balance that has tipped beyond what anyone has seen before, leaving the futures of all eight worlds in jeopardy. To save the worlds, rules must be broken, time will be upended, secrets will demand to be revealed, and friendships must be sacrificed.

Slide #3 - An Entirely Inconvenient Number of comps The whimsical bureaucracy of The House in the Cerulean Sea Unique townsfolk like Halloween Town Cozy small town vibes like Murder She Wrote For fans of cozy fantasies & coffee shops like Legends and Lattes, but with the higher stakes of murder. Metaphysical Fun like: Good Omens and The Good Place Humor of: The Eyre Affair and Mort

Slide 4: A socially acceptable boost to my ego features quotes from people who have read A Wayward Balance such as "When I tell you this story has me HOOKED" and "So fricken fun"

ONE PIECE IN SPACE A runaway must work with the infuriating partner of her unfortunate crush to rescue him and his breakthrough magic from becoming a weapon, even as her growing feelings clash with her history of running from everyone she’s ever loved. #questpit #Q #A #F #RF #SFF

A card with a starry background with the title Pirates and Planets. The subtitle says Opening Lines. Below is a paragraph. It says:
Romanza Glass. It’s a name many forgot and select few know.
If someone were not already familiar with the stinking back-alleys and smoggiest corners of Cytherean under-cities, they’d probably never heard of a little dive bar called “The Growler.” But if they had, they’d know the sweet, sticky smell of conditioning oil and spilled liquor, the lamps’ eerie green glow dripping over tabletops, and the intoxicating delight of their crown jewel: the illustrious performer known only as “Looking Glass.”

A card that says Pirates and Planets - Comps across the top. Below, there are two columns with covers of books. The first says By Me. Listed left to right, the comps listed are The Murderbot Diaries, One Piece; Apparently, Sir Cameron Needs to Die; The Dispossessed, The Adventure Zone Balance (a podcast, not a book), and Six of Crows.
The second column says By Readers. From left to right, they are Arcane (the Netflix animated show), These Burning Stars, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, and Gideon the Ninth.

HEARTLESS HUNTER X SLAVIC FOURTH WING 🎭 She, a humble servant posing as Duchess, is his executioner-to-be. 🐉 He, the arrogant Dragon Prince, must save a kingdom from the encroaching Ever-Dark. 🖤 Neither anticipated falling for the one destined to be their undoing. #questpit #NA #R #F #DF #Q

A gothic-style book cover titled "Root and Ruin." Centered is a glowing, cyan-blue dragon coiled into a circle, its scales etched with faint, runic symbols. Golden, gnarled roots extend downward from the dragon like branching veins against the pitch-black background. Text at the top reads "Enemies to Lovers," "Fated Mates," and "Fake Identity," with "An Agent’s Guide" in the top right. Subtitle reads "80k • NA Slavic Romantasy," and the bottom logline says, "She is sent to kill the dragon. Instead, she might become his only salvation."

A graphic titled "The Comps" in golden lettering. It displays four book covers arranged in a grid: "Heartless Hunter" by Kristen Ciccarelli, "Fourth Wing" by Rebecca Yarros, "Shadow and Bone" by Leigh Bardugo, and "The Witcher: The Last Wish" by Andrzej Sapkowski.

A self-made fantasy illustration showing a halfway transformed, dark-haired man, Prince Konstantin Veliki, with a silver crown and dragon wings. He is carrying a woman, a humble servant Iva, masquerading as a Duchess Zora, in a long, flowing cream-colored gown as they fly through the air. She is his guest but unbeknownst to him, she is plotting to poison him. In the background, a sprawling forest surrounds a magic academy, Kolegium with colorful, traditional Slavic-style onion domes—gold, silver, bronze and green. Each of the domes represents air, water, fire and earth magic respectively. Snippet text at the bottom reads: "Do you always sequester your guests and take flight with them?"

A self-made illustration set in the catacombs under the magic academy, Kolegium, featuring classical-style statues on the walls. Iva, in dark armor, rides a bright, light blue-scaled dragon; it is Prince Konstantin Veliki in his dragon form.
They face off against a monstrous, ethereal shadow dragon composed of wispy, black smoke and glowing eyes — this is Konstantin’s fallen father Tibor Veliki. A brilliant golden sphere of light, relic of the Slavic god of light, Belobog, called Spark of Creation, floats on a pedestal between them. Text at the bottom of the snippet reads: "Let us dance, little one," the Shadow Dragon hisses in a dry whisper of the fallen. "A worthy foe," Konstantin responds. We take to the air to meet the darkness. Two gargantuan winged silhouettes hover in the abyss, suspended in a precarious balance. They mirror one another; two sides of the same coin, champions of Belobog and Chernobog.

One of the fun things about working on a historical fantasy based in your own country when you didn't grow up there, is that research is just you having an excuse to learn more about your own history and explore touristic sites for fun. #writingcommunity #bookresearch #amquerying

Things I learned from posting weekly on #Wattpad as opposed to writing a full novel before posting it. 1 - Improvisation is key. If I already posted that person's name is something or the chain of events went a specific way, I can't change it, I need to adapt 'yes and' it. #writingcommunity
