Dick Tracy(1990): 7.5/10 A immensely colorful and vibrant bounce off the page comic adaption that while it falters in substance and an interesting plot, its style is off the charts. Miss when movies weren’t afraid to look like this.

Drakengard: 10/10 Frustrating, haunting, violent, taboo, so much of Drakengard is horrifyingly existential wrapped in a dark fantasy musou like. It’s absolutely amazing. “The seeds never were. And mankind remains unforgiven.”

Green Arrow Year One: 7/10 A solid telling of Green Arrow’s origin story with a fun jungle adventure comprised of plenty of action going with a very great character study of Arrow. It’s a short read and the pacing isn’t too amazing, but it’s solid!

Justice League Crisis on Two Earths: 6.5/10 I really miss when DC did animated features like this, it’s a real dying idea. Two Earths is pretty fun! Not the most amazingly well written but it’s well worth it for the fun of the evil counterparts, especially everything involving Owlman.

The Sentry: 9/10 A exceedingly well written and gripping odyssey of Marvel’s greatest golden hero forgotten by all. This concept of a great silver age type golden god of a character erased from all memory is so interesting that it keeps you hooked all throughout.

Superman: Birthright: 7.5/10 The opposite to All Star, Superman: Birthright is a solid retelling of Supermans origin story with a much more personal and personable lens shone onto it. Really great character writing with everything that makes Superman great!

Umurangi Generation + Macro: 7.5/10 Through pure environmental storytelling manages to capture political strife and unrest through your own camera lens. Letting you capture your own photos and moments as the world crumbles around you. Gameplay is a bit jank tho. Fuck US and UK colonialism btw

Sacred and Terrible Air: 8.7/10 The Fire Walk With Me to Disco Elysium’s Twin Peaks. Exceptionally written if a tad clunky at times, but brimming with wonderful ideas and great tragedy.

Pagemaster: 6/10 Really nice looking but a kind of boring kids animated movie. I liked the library/book stuff though! Read books!

Disco Elysium: 10/10 “No. This is somewhere to be. This is all you have, but it’s still something. Streets and sodium lights. The sky. The world. You’re still alive.”

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves: 7.5/10 A way better movie than I was expecting! A movie that really loves and understands its source material and has a surprising amount of heart to it. A really fun adventure watch!

A Wild Sheep Chase: 9/10 What is generally considered Haruki Murakami’s first full novel may very well be my favorite yet. A wildly surreal detective odyssey involving sheep, dreams and ears, had me enraptured from start to finish. A real remarkable novel!

Needy Girl Overdose: 5.5/10 Visually, Needy is really good stuff, it’s well made and very artistic. Everything else though from characters to writing to themes falls a bit flat and we end up with a show that struggles to say anything substantial.

Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age: 9.8/10 Despite its flaws, I’m genuinely surprised FF 12 isn’t held in higher regard. There’s so many standout parts of the whole game that it’s hard to dictate what I love the most, besides all of it to be honest. May be my favorite FF so far.

Le Samouraï: 9/10 A cold and impeccably calculated character study of a lone modern samurai whose armor eventually begins to crack due to outside forces. One of those movies you really gotta sit with but it is excellent.

luminsequence @alezarde.bsky.social · 23/06/2026
Batman White Knight: 7.5/10 A really cinematic and fast paced story where the roles of protector and terrorizer between Batman and Joker are switched. Not my favorite Batman story but it definitely stands out! Especially in its more societal and political themes.

Virtual Assassin: 4/10 A pretty rote techno Die Hard clone that was mildly entertaining but really didn’t stand out on anything in particular. It’s fun though, and the villains are great! One dimensional sure, just like everything else in this but still decently fun!

Gotham Central: 8.7/10 ANOTHA ONE. I really liked Gotham Central! It lacks the superhero punch of a typical comic by focusing on the police department in the shadow of Batman, but its more personal and mystery focused approach was great. While a tad poorly aged in some respects, it was still great!

ENGLISH BILLY BAT IN CURRENT YEAR 2026??? Genuinely never thought this would happen to a manga that shot into my top five of all time. What a time to be alive. Can’t wait to wait 10 years til they’re all in English so I can read it all again :D

All Star Superman: 9/10 If you wanted the perfect all around Superman story, it’s this one. Encapsulating everything that makes Superman so good from the beginning to the end, All Star has it. It’s a bit uneven at times but it puts the hope and optimism about Superman up on a grand pedestal.

Batman The Court of Owls Saga: 8.5/10 A prime Batman story and genuinely one of the greats with some of the best writing and art in the canon. My only issue is with some pacing and a bit with the ending but besides that, totally worth the read.

Far Sector: 7/10 Whaddaya know ANOTHER compact. You’d think I like these. I love Green Lantern stories and Far Sector is solid enough as a self contained story, but while the art is fantastic and protagonist great, its pacing is uneven and some contemporary inclusions take me outta the story.

Nightwing Leaping into the Light: 7.9/10 Another compact! These are great. And this story is a ton of fun! Great art, great paneling, and while it peters out a bit near its end since its story continued in different comics, it’s still very great! Solid primer for Nightwing.

Tech Jacket Compendium: 7/10 A really fun cosmic adventure with a lot of great art and designs and a really solid coming of age story. I really liked this! Then again I have a preference for cool armor stuff so that helped a lot.

A image from the PS2 horror game Silent Hill 3. Heather Mason is looking at a tray of bread. She comments, “It’s bread.”

Chainsaw Man Part 1: 8.5/10 It’s been so fun to finally get into CSM because the mangas first arc is so creative and energetic, even if it is at times a bit unfocused and messy, it makes up for it with pure earnestness in its art and themes.

Tsui no Sora: 7/10 While it has flaws, Tsui no Sora is still really great to read. Being a denpa forerunner, it set a lot of standards and marches to the beat of its own drum, graphics, music, a lot of that falls under that umbrella. It’s a really effective psychological VN at its best!

.hack//quarantine: 9/10 As the saga comes to a close, I find myself loving .hack even more for its themes, characters, narrative, way of immersing you into the internet of old, and so much more. It’s a very special kind of experience. I got full thoughts here btw: backloggd.com/u/Alezarde/r...

.hack//outbreak: 8.5/10 The conspiracy deepens! Tons of great story and characters beats happen in this part leading to one that keeps giving you great reasons to keep being absorbed in the narrative. Gameplay hasn’t changed much again, but that’s still fine by me. Final part is next (:

White Noise by Don Delilo(1985): 9.8/10 I can’t exactly fit my whole thoughts on this seminal work into a single social media post but I’ll say that this novel is more prevalent and profound today than perhaps it’s ever been. The white noise is all around us, you can’t see it if it’s always there.

.hack//mutation: 7.5/10 Part two of .hack continues ramping up the story and the mystery while remaining really more of the same as the first. That’s neither a good or bad thing to me, but it’s all working toward with a great story I’m rolling with the process.

.hack//infection: 8/10 The first part of .hack is very intriguing but is a slow burn, but’s it’s very good at getting you immersed in its world and establishing a very intriguing central mystery. Movin onto part 2 next.

God Country: 7/10 A somber and cosmic miniseries with excellent art and a narrative meditating on life, death, and the memories left behind by those passed on. It’s a great graphic novel and if you know someone who’s never read one before, God Country is a solid first read.

Kamen Rider G: 5.5/10 It feels a little unfair to judge this too much since it’s essentially a anniversary production for TV Asashi but G had a lot of really cool things in it, it’s a neat proof of concept for a rider that never happened. And G just had one of the best suit designs EVER, that’s rad

Kamen Rider J(1994): 6.5/10 A good enough gap between the end of the Showa era and the beginning of the Heisei. It isn’t amazing but the general designs, banging practical effects and neat focus on environmentalism make it decently stand out.

Kamen Rider (1971) is famous for being produced on a low budget, as a result, compromises had to be made, but limitations breed great creativity as we can see with this intricate display of cinematography.

Catwoman: Trail of the Catwoman: 8.3/10 I’ve become a real Darwyn Cooke fan since reading New Frontier but pairing him with such a talented crime comic writer in Brubaker is a winning combo. Trail is just good crime narratives with a Catwoman noir flair to it. Excellent stuff, with a few story duds
