Besonders aufhorchen lassen dieses Mal die Auskünfte zu den Berufszielen der Nachwuchsforscher: Die Mehrheit will nicht mehr Professor oder Professorin werden.

Nur noch 16 Prozent der Promovierenden streben langfristig eine Professur an. Immer schwieriger wird es für die Universitäten, Posten auf der nächsten Karrierestufe zu besetzen.

Auch unter den jetzigen Postdocs sieht nur noch ein gutes Drittel seine Zukunft in Forschung und Lehre. "Es ist das erste Mal in unseren Befragungen, dass für diese Gruppe nicht mehr die Professur das erste Karriereziel darstellt", sagt Gregor Fabian vom DZHW.

Insgesamt 57 Prozent der befragten Forscher und Forscherinnen haben in den letzten zwei Jahren den Ausstieg aus der Wissenschaft erwogen. Weil sie die hohe Arbeitsbelastung nervt. Weil sie nicht entfristet werden. Weil sie daran zweifeln, gut genug für eine Professur zu sein.
