This is true. The only computers that existed in the UK until 1997 were state-sanctioned BBC Micros with approved educational software and games.

Super Mario!? Nah, we didn't have that in The UK. The only video game we got back in the day was Tedious Tim for the Acorn Electron.
You had to sweep dust and solve maths problems, which we called "sums".

The GOV.UK style guide has said to write numbers as numerals since it launched. guidance.publishing.service.gov.uk/writing-to-g...
Write all other numbers in numerals (including 2 to 9) except where it's part of a common expression like 'one or two of them' where numerals would look strange.

I was tidying the loft today and found some old sketch books, including this which must have been from about 98/99 and includes loads of the above bands.

Being evicted from the garages because they’re going to build flats there. This is my last ditch attempt to find a home for this G-Plan headboard. Anyone in London want this?

I saw a local news item about someone being arrested for theft on my Facebook feed this morning and the comments were full of racist rhetoric fuelled by Reform. Didn’t seem to be any form of moderation by @itvnews.bsky.social or Facebook.

What iOS photo editing apps do you recommend? I had a free trial of Adobe Lightroom and have been using it to touch up and improve my phone photos and it works great but £48 / year seems a lot for what I use it for.

Why do energy companies hold hundreds of pounds in balance? I’m fortunate that I can manage that but for some families it must be crippling. They’ve not taken the gas bill for this month but it’s still a lot of money to hold.
In a nutshell:
On 7th May, your balance was £121.72. We've since charged you £66.77, and you've paid in £143.32.
Now, your balance is £198.27.

Yesterday I found out that the cover art for Autechre's Envane EP is an illustration of Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water
The cover for Autechre's Envane EP from 1997. An abstract illustration of angular shapes in white, black and different shades of warm grey, it suggests a 3D form.
