I don’t think I’d like to be at ACL for this weather but man it was a gorgeous day for a misty bike ride

New /now page is up! A little snapshot of what's on my mind: founders, Bartleby, vermouth, and a mountain of side projects. 😅 Also, the office clear-out left me with 185 books that need new homes, free if you cover shipping (or local pickup in Austin). alexpriest.com/now

Fuck it, let's go — Alex Priest
What would it be like if I published one post every day of the week? Just as an experiment? What if I did that this week?

I have a list of post ideas a mile long, and every one of them wants to be perfect before it goes out. Trying a different approach: fuck it, let's go.

I'm tinkering with an app that makes iMessage better on Mac—power-user tools, real archiving (not just delete), great keyboard shortcuts, etc. What's the one thing about Messages on Mac that drives you nuts?

Before the internet, you had a guy. A guy for your health, a guy for your money, a guy for your travel. Now you're the guy for all of it. Turns out those guys did a lot of work.

60-second quiz — pick your badge, interests, vibe, which days you're there. It reads every session description and builds a conflict-free schedule. You can refine it through chat too ("more music, fewer panels" works). southbyai.com

SXSW starts today and there are 4,000+ events on the schedule. I'm not even going and I'm overwhelmed. So I pointed Claude at this last week and... it built a quiz that spits out a personalized schedule in about a minute. --dangerously-skip-permissions ftw

Alex Priest @alexpriest.com · 10/03/2026
Built the whole thing in about a week with Claude Code. Scraped all 4,000 sessions, set up a team of AI agents to handle frontend, design, copy, and QA in parallel. One person, twelve agents. Still not an engineer. Still building things. A little more detail here: www.alexpriest.com/writing/sou...

4,000 sessions. One quiz. I built an AI-powered SXSW schedule builder because I didn't want to read all those descriptions either.

So I built an AI-powered schedule builder. 60-second quiz, personalized schedule, refine it through chat. Not perfect, but way better than scrolling. southbyai.com

SXSW starts in two days and there are 4,000+ sessions on the schedule. Every year the same thing happens... you open it, start scrolling, get overwhelmed, open 472 browser tabs, and end up with no plan. You're already exhausted and the fucking thing hasn't even started yet.

But today I'm betting that we need more than just fight to win here... we need someone who can energize the base *and* pull from the middle. I think that's @jamestalarico.bsky.social. Whatever you do... GO VOTE!
000
Alex Priest @alexpriest.com · 03/03/2026
To be clear: @jasmineforus.bsky.social is remarkable and I deeply admire her service and her fight. I'll vote for her in November in a heartbeat, if she wins today. She would be an incredible senator for all Texans.

Alex Priest @alexpriest.com · 03/03/2026
Texas hasn't elected a Democrat statewide since 1994. @jamestalarico.bsky.social flipped a Trump district. He leads with faith, working people, and finding common ground—but not in a watered-down way. He can walk into a room with people who disagree and keep them engaged (or even convinced).

Alex Priest @alexpriest.com · 03/03/2026
Very, very excited and proud to have voted for @jamestalarico.bsky.social today. And while I love @jasmineforus.bsky.social, too, I felt compelled to vote for the person I think has the best chance of turning Texas blue in November.

I’m reaching the point where I’m almost willing to pay apps to hide their useless AI features (and this comes from someone who, generally, is a big user + optimist about AI), smh

I need art galleries / art fairs to make themselves explicitly no-kids. Not because I mind the kids being there, but because I need them to save me from inflicting this upon myself. My kids + art fairs = not fun.

Parenting thought today: my biggest frustrations with my kids tend to be when they struggle with something I excel at, i.e. decision-making, moving fast, focus. Now trying to reframe these moments as reminders that 1/ they are not me and 2/ this is what I am supposed to teach.
