That compared Ronaldo to Pele and Maradona (but not someone else, you know who)... 😂

“Tell me more about X” is such an effective technique for getting Trump, in particular, to say even more outrageous things, and media often go for the “well, surely you don’t mean X,” approach which just gets him to go “I’m allowed to do X.”

I think even with Schumer it's wishful thinking. If Dems really do wipe the table in the Senate, you've got Peltola, Brown, maybe Osborn (I know, not technically a dem), Turek, Pappas, Cooper - these folks simultaneously give Dems more power and make an insurgency less likely.

100% agree, but I also just don't think this will happen. I think Chuck and Hakeem will still be the leaders of their respective houses, and they just won't authorize it.

Good thread of all the complications to which I’d add the enduring value of financial cheating after the crime. Man City’s squad today isn’t possible without this. What to make of their (e.g.) 2024 title win?

Probably partly because he didn’t play that much at the World Cup. How could he be that good? Well, cause France are just stacked.

He’s been bad, but you look at Isak every time Wirtz gives the ball away and he’s completely static.

What are Nat Guard doing with FBI? Beyond the obvious (armed agents at schools is reprehensible), I don't believe the Nat Guard have a charge to support whatever FBI is doing here (which I worry is deputized immigration enforcement).

Yeah it's not great when the organization ostensibly with the purpose of keeping us safe is endangering us in the name of keeping us safe. Only solution is overthrowing the leadership of the organization or building an organization actually committed to protecting Jews.

Prescient post. Progress always comes swiftest after the reactionaries overreach.

Here’s a screenshot where I can literally see only four lines of (non-sequential) text. This is a good piece, but the reading experience is awful. @thenation.com

000

Alex Bloom @alexpbloom.bsky.social · 14/09/2026

The state of media… Less than one third of the screen is devoted to the article. Hadn’t clicked through on a piece in @thenation.com and yikes.

000

Alex Bloom @alexpbloom.bsky.social · 13/09/2026

The press was decent, but it only resulted in 1-2 half-chances. 1 xG from a game at home against Fulham doesn’t really cut it going forward. Too slow, lacking ideas. Thought Jacquet looked awesome and Wirtz was good again (he’s turning into a pressing machine). But pretty meh performance imo.

Also big fan. Think, circa 2001, I had read everything Lloyd Alexander had written.

010

Alex Bloom @alexpbloom.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

I think the lack of creation was more down to game state and Gakpo (who was good at LW) not being a CF. Couldn’t get out for last 30. Wirtz had a monster game two ways today too.

Anecdote of 1: I've lived in DC without owning a car for a long time and never used one of these services. On rare occasions when I need a car, I rent one from traditional rental company. I was in one once (a friend with a Car2Go membership) and the problems you describe applied.

Kinda assume we'll be linked with every maybe-available winger in the next few days. Don't hate Sarr, though, assuming the price isn't sky-high.

His movement is so lackluster. Should’ve signed Wissa instead. At least we got Ekitike.

I have a framed photo on the wall of Valentia Island and surrounds taken atop Beentee (the hill behind Cahersiveen). Pretty much heaven on earth. And there was basically nobody else on the hike.

This is very well done. And you've managed to dupe the AI (as a fun secondary outcome).

I am now well above the speed limit, so this guy is honking at me why, exactly? Eventually, he passes me *in the bike lane on the right* while shouting abuse at me out the window before swerving to cut me off back into the main traffic lane. He must have been going 45 MPH.

100

Alex Bloom @alexpbloom.bsky.social · 17/08/2026

As I begin the downhill slope, already going reasonably fast (at least 20-25 mph), said Unhinged Motorist honks at me. I don’t move. In another 10 seconds, I’m up to 30-35 MPH (I topped out at 35 MPH).

For the DC locals, I was biking down into Rock Crock Park from the west side on Tilden. There’s a bike lane there, but it is often covered with loose gravel, has a few manhole covers, and can be victim to surprise car door openings. So I biked in the road.

Map showing Tilden St NW on the west side of the park with the eastbound lane highlighted green.

Yeah, like, I learned this lesson as a middle schooler in Pittsburgh. Can’t talk to anyone on Monday in the fall unless you’ve watched the Steelers! Now I use soccer all the time to connect with people wherever I am.

Yes! Stop with the notion that public opinion can’t be shaped! It absolutely can and it’s the job of leaders to do so.

Alex Bloom @alexpbloom.bsky.social · 15/08/2026

They’re genuinely going to have to set up a temporary office of investigation into crimes against democracy or something. There are so many little things like this and no one who participated can be welcome back in public life ever again.

Alex Bloom @alexpbloom.bsky.social · 13/08/2026

I have some ambivalence about the Phrase "Woke 1.0." On the one hand it indulges a right-wing talking point (as you note here); on the other, it creates distance from past stances (which may prove valuable).

DoorDash, you don’t need to address the DC Council, you need to address us — your customers, restaurant workers, and the drivers making your billions in profit possible. Withdraw your support for #HR9720. Oppose federal attacks on your drivers and the DC community. Until then it’s #DeleteDoorDash.

Genuine question if anything you’ve said here doesn’t apply to food banks. People can go and get food for free (even more steeply discounted prices). Do the food banks disrupt the ecosystem of food retail?

It’s possible the centrists and the normie right wing unite around Ossoff or Pritzer or someone, but I struggle to see that happening before a lot of the primary has already gone badly for them.

000

Alex Bloom @alexpbloom.bsky.social · 19/07/2026

This is why as good as Ossoff is (and I like him a lot), if AOC runs, I really she wins the nomination easily. She has 30-40% of the primary vote in the bank. There’s no other clearly left person running. Khanna? Lol. And the centrists are going to struggle to rally around 1 person.

We will all have to be vigilant to not give in to slop. AI is just massively degrading every product in the name of efficiency. The only means of counteracting the trend is to move your $ (eyeballs, digitally) elsewhere.

The first time I can so clearly remember having this thought also involved Argentina... but the other end. They took Riquelme, who was bossing the game, off against Germany in 2006 up 1-0. Germany equalized and then won in the shootout. www.espn.com/soccer/match...
