In 1974, fans wrote letters responding to an advertisement in a Marvel comic, threatening to stop reading Marvel if it continued. Roy Thomas raised the issue with Stan Lee, and, according to an internal office memo involving then-president Al Landau, no more ads of its like were used.

I had a great time moderating the Gardner Fox panel with pals, David Armstrong, Bill Field, Phil Nelson, Lenny Schwartz and grandkids, Terri and Greg Fox. We brought some much needed appreciation and acknowledgement to the Golden Age comic book writer and creator at San Diego Comic Con 2026.

It was a pleasure moderating the Steranko Shadowhouse panel with my friend David Armstrong, former MGM senior VP. We discussed how he and Steranko helped create one of Marvel’s earliest film adaptations, followed by a 1080p screening of Shadowhouse and a new 4K interview with Steranko.

I had a great time moderating this panel with N. Scott Robinson Ph.D on international licensing in comics from the 1940s to the present. This was super illuminating and I enjoyed presenting the part of marvel licensing from the 1950s to the 1980s. Top notch discussion.

I had a wonderful time moderating the Spotlight on Bud Plant, who gets inducted into the Eisner Hall of Fame tomorrow. Bill Schanes recently bought his Bud’s Art Books & joined us. Bud and I have been friends for 8 years and he’s been in comics for more than 50. I celebrated both.

The all powerful #ROM was present in all his licensed promotional glory with other Marvel characters at the White House in 1981. ROM was a relatively new hero at the time and kids were more than excited to buy the toys after seeing him in action.

Very excited to say that my book has stayed in Amazon’s comic history top ten even a few years later. It’s written to be evergreen, and always relevant. Thank you to all for your support and interest!

Adam West and Burt Ward on set during 1960s Batman. Interesting to get some insight into what his hair was doing under that mask.

Legends of #Superheros (NBC, 1979) is said to have been a pilot of sorts to start off a campy Justice League TV show. Was this a missed opportunity?

Dr. Strange (CBS, 1978) didn't reach the innovative adventures laid out by Steve Ditko. But with the technology of the time, what would be a fair rating from 1-10 for this made for tv film?

The Greatest #American Heroine (NBC, 1986) was a pilot for a continuation series from The Greatest American Hero. William Katt didnt want to continue the role, but was in this episode, passing the costume to a worthy wearer. the network decided against continuing the storyline.

Walter Hill’s Streets of Fire feels like a neon rock & roll comic, w/ Diane Lane, Willem Dafoe, Rick Moranis, Bill Paxton & the same director as The Warriors. Diane Lane is a live-action bridge between Dazzler, Lila Cheney & Jem and the Holograms, a pop star with grit and danger.
