Free prescriptions, free tuition, publicly owned rail and publicly owned water are worth standing up for. On May 7th, make it both votes SNP for a government that's on your side. #BBCDN #BothVotesSNP

As I recall, at the time the system was announced the explanation was that minority governments, which would be more likely to be delivered by it, would be forced to compromise and therfore be more democratic. Im not sure i ever agreed with that notion

It's critical to understand that the voting system in Scotland is specifically designed to make it difficult for any party to gain a majority. Worth wondering why that is

Dont speak for me. Who is this "they" you mean? I'm happy to acknowledge when my facts are wrong, and as for Labour, that's the least of the reasons why I am unhappy with them.

Should I not be emotional about people being targeted for trying to escape their circumstances in their home nation, be it war, famine or persecution?

The OP was specifically about changes to the asylum system, not general immigration. For the record, I am a Scot, and we desperately need people to migrate here as we have an aging population and years of austerity mean people are having fewer kids.

alexferrie.bsky.social @alexferrie.bsky.social · 14/11/2025
Perhaps you should find out how the asylum system works before commenting. Unless you're Ukranian or from Hong Kong, it is impossible to apply for asylum in thr UK without actually being in the UK. Most asylum claims are eventually granted, but take years to process

Again, not a core service involved in daily operations of the NHS. All core services should be provided in-house
010
alexferrie.bsky.social @alexferrie.bsky.social · 12/11/2025
Strongly disagree. All of those services should be supplied in house. As soon as a private org provides those services, costs go up and quality goes down. I've seen it in action.

alexferrie.bsky.social @alexferrie.bsky.social · 12/11/2025
There's a difference between buying equipment and consumables, and actually having private companies provide services that the NHS used to manage in-house. I'm not suggesting the NHS get into manufacturing, but services should be provided by NHS staff only.

alexferrie.bsky.social @alexferrie.bsky.social · 12/11/2025
Here's a notion. Why give private companies contracts at all? Part of the reason the NHS struggles with funding is due to either PFI contracts or the stealth provisioning of essential services through private companies. Profit and health care are not compatible

How many times do I have to say that I am delighted England has a party to vote for that's not part of the right wing hellscape taking over there. Doesn't give him the right to ignore the SNP and claim something that's not true.

alexferrie.bsky.social @alexferrie.bsky.social · 11/09/2025
I could say the same to you, but that's hardly productive dialogue, is it? The man made a statement which was factually incorrect. I corrected that. From a Scottish perspective, we're used to English based politicians making inaccurate statements about our nation

alexferrie.bsky.social @alexferrie.bsky.social · 11/09/2025
The SNP have MPs in the UK parliament so it's relevant in that context

alexferrie.bsky.social @alexferrie.bsky.social · 11/09/2025
Did you not get the original point? SNP are very much in favour of immigration to the point that it's a matter of SNP policy, hence my original comment on Zack Polanskis post where he claimed only the Greens take that position. Accuracy is all I ask for

That's hardly the way to gather allies and advance an argument. Like me, she wants Scotland to be taken seriously and treated with respect by the English political establishment. That's not tribal, it's a need to be heard

Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that England finally has someone in a party leadership position willing to call out the neoliberal parties and try to inject humanity back into politics, but don't ignore Scottish and Welsh parties who will be natural allies

It's policy to recognise that Scotland needs immigration to function long term, as our working age population is declining

Timely reminder that the UK was intimately involved in the writing of the ECHR. Always challenge anyone who says we need to withdraw - "Why do you want me to lose my rights?" should be the first question on your lips. youtu.be/ptfmAY6M6aA

Core infrastructure services, like water and power, and public transport should all be in public ownership. I have no issue with private enterprise as a concept but current political thinking gives it supremacy over the needs of society. That's not good.

What you're talking about is neoliberal economics- the notion that markets can better utilise resources than government, but it's based on deeply flawed assumptions and is actively damaging to the vast majority of the population.
