'The great renewal of the world will perhaps consist in this, that man and maid, freed of all false feelings and reluctances, will seek each other not as opposites, but as brother and sister, as neighbours, and will come together as human beings.' - Rainer Maria Rilke

By Mahmood's logic we can counter misogyny by limiting women's rights, and counter anti-Semitism by having a cap on Jews holding property. Her argument is incoherent and evil.

New Batman villain just dropped. He was raised by coconuts and believes they are the only ones who really understand him. He is terrified of the sound of horses' hooves.

Rob Rowland.
Painting. A man in a dark suit and a woman in a light trench coat embrace and kiss passionately against a dark brick wall. They are hidden in the shadows of a cobbled alleyway and stone steps. On the left wall, a vintage film poster prominently displays the 1962 British movie A Kind of Loving, starring Alan Bates and June Ritchie. The steps look down toward an industrial urban landscape. Below them run railway tracks flanked by low-profile buildings. Further back, a brick railway viaduct arches across the mid-ground.

Me listening to history podcasts. Some days: How interesting, the variety of particular details serving to illustrate the universality of human experience. Other days: Humans have been assholes to each other forever, no one learns anything, I don't need any more examples.

Emerging consensus (at least here) on a good direction for Dr Who seems to be: - Slow it down - it isn't a ride. - FX can be dialled down but still effective. - More weird and creepy please. Basically, more like Blink. I would add: keep the Doctor mysterious. Less of their story is more.

"Vue du Fleuve" Alfred Joseph Auguste Van Neste
Painting of (most likely) Bruges.

A weathered cream-colored building featuring a round, domed stone tower roof. A classic arched window on the upper floor is framed by bright turquoise-blue shutters. A calm canal or river flows horizontally across the foreground and midground. A single, elegant white swan glides peacefully on the water to the left of the main structure, leaving a slight wake in its path.

This is an insight into the President's mind. He sees any money he pays out as a loss, even (crucially) where he receives something of value in return. No wonder there have been multiple reports that he's failed to pay people and companies who have worked with him. Amazing that anyone still does.
President Trump Explains Trade Deficits:

“If we buy 2 billion dollars worth of Bananas from Brazil, we’re actually losing 2 billion dollars. So if we stop eating bananas, we actually save 2 billion dollars”.

It’s just simple Economics.
