I don't know how to make a spreadsheet do what you're making it do, but Airtable is designed exactly for this purpose, and I run my whole life through it:

My moment of "I'm old" from my vacation last week involved my wife and I explaining--to full-grown adults--that the repurposed vending machine currently selling indie art boxes in the hotel *used to be* a cigarette vending machine. "No, not just one or two cigarettes. You'd get whole packs."
