what a fugly graph. next up, try to integrate exog, thin out the confidence interval. learning a lot. hope to use these skills for science one day. too bad i don't trust academia so i have to build my own way there.

i saw that innovation index people keep sharing. its scope for "innovation" is very narrow. one time in the remote mountains of bosnia our car broke down because of a hole in the water tank and my local friends fixed it temporarily with bubble gum. it held long enough for us to get to civilisation.

i understand maths when it is written in code. but when teachers and academics write about it, i've no clue what they're on about. we should normalise different ways of perceiving maths and not kill wonder in its infancy.

if c-suite keeps hyping ai and forcing devs to use it and cause critical severities shouldn't this be in the secdevops thread model

finished this book. nice intro to basics. very repetitive. i read intermittently so this is great for reminding me what i forgot since the last session. could do with more repetition tbh. nice practices. didn't do any. working on my own thing now with its examples though. github.com/marcopeix/Ti...

one method to turn timestamps into a feature for machine learning is to locate it in a 1x1 graph that represents a day using sine and cosine functions. there is something poetic about this transmogrification.

From Nicole C. Nelson's talk. I still like science but obviously, deeply distrustful of its environment. Doesn't help that I dumped academia because of it. Thinking of going back though. But it has to be on my terms, not academia's. Not doing that toxicity and abuse again. Idk how yet.
Bar graph: have you failed to reproduce an experiment? Someone else's and your own.

Someone else's: chemistry, over 80%; biology, almost 80%; physics & engineering, almost 70%; medicine, almost 60%; earth and environment, over 60%; other, over 60%.

My own: chemistry, over 60%; biology, 60% on the dot; physics & engineering, a little over 50%; medicine, over 50%; earth and environment, a little over 40%; other, almost 50%.

ai expenditure is crazy. we might as well hire a few junior and senior devs for the same price and get better quality code. i don't understand how the hype is still going on. so many recruiters asking me to do ai but i'm scared it will implode. i love the underlying maths but this feels very risky.

met up with a friend who said he can't treat code as craft anymore. with agentic coding he finds there's nothing to be proud of. he feels like he's lost a source of joy. and not to mention the code the llms write is still not great. but it works and the tests pass so who cares.

seeing an annoying trend where devs trust ai more than they trust themselves. the feature works and tests pass but it's not great code. i refactored it to be cleaner. but making me wonder if shit code will be fine in future if agentic coding becomes competitive edge. am i fine with this? idk.

I took this pic in a gorgeous valley in Iceland. I love it because it shows flies in their natural environment and keeping it alive. We've taken so much from them. It's too cold for bees in Iceland. I didn't know that.
Wild celery flowers in a valley. Lots and lots of flies on the flower. Looks like houseflies but probably another species.

I wondered why Singaporeans are so obsessed with nostalgia. Then, hypothesis: they will live in a state of constant loss until everything is flattened in the service of whatever logic made this necessary. The same thing that turned art into a white cube. An entropy of cosmic horror without escape.

Part of writing in the language of the coloniser is grappling with how much to accept what we inherit from them and how much we've lost because of them. And what if we're migrants to our own land? How can I write, second-guessing all the way? Words burn like acid on my tongue. Do I spit or swallow?
