I've been thinking about distances in LFT units. Such as, I've got 1.5 LFTs to go.

A lock on the Erie Canal. There's a substantial hill in the background. The locks are more frequent in this section.

Fort Stanwix. Built on the original trail west from NYC, also why the canal ended up coming through here.

I bought a cheap bike computer for this trip. No regrets. It doesn't have a touchscreen, which is fine with me. It doesn't have road or topographical maps, but it saves the phone battery and gets you where you need to be. Interfaces with the phone nicely.

Today I startled a fox munching on a small deer hit by a car, a gopher occupying a well-established network of holes along the canal, and a turkey vulture just hanging out in the road.
