I ordered an NFC reader for my passport. Then another when the first didn't arrive. Inevitably both arrived today, within minutes of one another.
2 USB NFC readers made by ACS. One is white and unpacked, the other is still in its bubble wrap.

An XKCD-style cartoon with 2 stick figures talking.
Her: XKCD is second nature to us nerds, so it's esay to forget that the average person probably only knows KXCD 327, 386, 927, 936, and 2347
Him: And 2501, of course
Her: Of course
Caption: Even when they're trying to compensate for it, experts in anything wildly overestimate the average person's familiarity with their field.

CSI Xmas have found no fingerprints. We suspect naughty elves. Witnesses did not see or hear anything.
A torn packet on a carpet, with a gift label attached. A set square has been placed next to it, to preserve evidence of the scene. Close of a torn packet labeled "For cats", with the contents visible. A gift tag is still attached. The scene suggests a cringe has occurred. Close up of a torn up packet and torn christmas wrapping paper. In the folded gift tag is the handwritten message "Drogon, XXX Jo". A set square with cm marks has been placed to show scale, like a crime scene photo.

Have you seen Python REPL rendering multiple history items on a single line in VS Code's terminal? It's annoying me and so far my web searches haven't uncovered anything. It affects multiple Python versions from xcode-select and from uv. The same Python REPLs are fine in macOS Terminal and Ghostty.
Visual Studio Code showing .python_history in the top pane, and a terminal session below. The terminal session shows a Python REPL session, and two lines from the .python_history have been erroneously rendered on a single line.

Firefox recently started showing a large link preview over the top of hyperlinks in a page. To disable it untick "Enable link previews" in Preferences > Browsing.
An unchcked checkbox labelled "Enable Link previews", from Firefox preferences. Descriptive text below it reads "See page title, decsription, and more. Use one of the shortcuts or right-click to preview links". Three sub-checkboxes below it are greyed out and also unchecked.

Two 3D printed car boot cargo fixers, in front of a banana (for scale). They're L shaped with one half is a solid rectangle with velcro on the outside, the other half had triangle cut outs. They work by sticking to the carpet in a car boot, to stop small items sliding.

Honourable mention to kohlmaker's design www.thingiverse.com/thing:2009495 which can be installed while a cable is plugged in and in use. However I'd only consider it single use, because it required too much force to delatch and unplug.
Two variations of a 3D printed retention clip on an RJ45 ethernet plug. The clips attach to the cable where it meets the base of the plug. One of the plugs is longer to account for the strain relied. Both clips extend a bar to the front of the plug, providing a T-shaped latch to hold the plug in the socket.

The two best 3D printed RJ45 retention clips (for me) - based on widest compatibility, strength & ease of use. mike_mattala's zip tie model is slimmer for tight spaced sockets www.thingiverse.com/thing:5530878. fakeDeltatime's 2 part model is self contained www.thingiverse.com/thing:4757607

The clip is secured by a black zip tipe that passes through a hole in the clip and around the plug.Close up of a 2-part 3D printed retention clip on an RJ45 ethernet plug. What shall we do this year?
Scene from the cartoon Pinky and the Brain. Two white lab mice standing in their cage at night. One of them, Brain, looms over the camera with arms outstreched. His oversized head is in shadow. He's clearly about to reveal his megalomaniac plan and do his villain laugh.
