#CitizenScience afficionados, #Euclid scientists would like to again solicit your input for classifying #GravitationalLensing systems. We need a sprint finish before the science analysis can be completed. 18000 galaxies that are maybe acting as lenses are waiting for your eyes and brains. 🔭 #ESA

“Hubble and Webb are like looking through a keyhole at an individual object,” says Kristen McQuinn, who heads the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope mission office at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore. “With Roman, it’s like opening the door, and now you see everything." 🔭 #NASARoman

Hopefully today you caught wind of the exciting possible dark matter detection at the LZ experiment. But what’s dark matter again? What’s LZ? What does all of this mean??? 1/10 ⚛️🧪

After a ten-day mission around the moon, the Artemis II astronauts will have traveled nearly 700,000 miles. Today is the final hurdle: reentry. Here's where we stand right now: www.scientificamerican.com/article/nasa...
A graphic of the Artemis II reentry timeline. The process takes 13 minutes for the capsule to travel from 400,000 feet above Earth down to the ocean. Also marked are a communications blackout spanning from about 30 seconds to 6 minutes into the process and the parachute deploy from 10 to 12.5 minutes.

📸 This new NASA/ESA #Hubble Space Telescope image features the Cat’s Eye Nebula (NGC 6543). Hubble’s sharp vision meets Euclid’s wide view to uncover this spectacular portrait of a dying star. esahubble.org/images/potm2... @science.esa.int @stsci.edu
Two images of a planetary nebula in space. The image to the left, labelled “Euclid & Hubble”, shows the whole nebula and its surroundings. A star in the very centre is surrounded by white bubbles and loops of gas, all shining with a powerful blue light. Farther away a broken ring of red and blue gas clouds surrounds the nebula. The background shows many stars and distant galaxies. A white box indicates the centre of the nebula and this region is the image to the right, labelled “Hubble”. It shows the multi-layered bubbles, pointed jets and circular shells of gas that make up the nebula, as well as the central star, in greater detail.

Beatrice Tinsley was born #OTD in 1941. British-born New Zealand astronomer and cosmologist, and the first female professor of #astronomy at Yale University, whose research made fundamental contributions to the astronomical understanding of how galaxies evolve, grow, and die. #WomenInSTEM (1/2)
Black-and-white portrait photograph of Beatrice Muriel Hill Tinsley (1941–1981), the brilliant New Zealand-born astronomer and cosmologist who revolutionized our understanding of galaxy evolution. She is shown in a close-up headshot against a plain, softly lit gray background, smiling warmly and just past the camera with an intelligent, approachable, and joyful expression. Tinsley has short, wavy dark hair styled in soft curls that frame her face, and she wears earrings with round pearl or gem accents. Her eyes are bright and engaging, and her expression radiates quiet confidence and enthusiasm, capturing her during her groundbreaking career in the 1960s or early 1970s when she developed influential models of stellar populations and demonstrated that galaxies evolve significantly over cosmic time.

Hello Bluesky 👋🏻 I've been lurking around for a few months now, but figured it's finally time for a proper intro. So: hi, I'm Alex! I'm a researcher in astrophysics, and I specialize in galaxy hunting 🌌 Outside of that, you'll typically find me running or baking (usually one after the other).
