Watched the Heartstopper movie. Some really sweet/poignant bits but also, why tf did they feel the need to shove in a contrived break-up? It was so clumsy! Extra disappointing since the book's actual conflict (that the film just breezed through) was believable and character-appropriate already!

Was woken up by the dog barking at 6am, went to check on things and saw someone with a torch outside opening the gate and sneaking to the door. Turns out it was a delivery courier. Mate! I appreciate timeliness but 6am with all the signs of a robbery is insane. Did not need that adrenaline spike 😖

Typical 😂 Still, not as good as private accounts, and the Discord has topics/threads so it's better. (I am curious, though, can you direct that make-it-happen energy towards some judiciously purchased lottery tickets??)

I'm so sorry. I hope you have people you can lean on and share the sorrow with. There is no comfort in this very moment but I hope eventually you'll find solace, in your memories and your love of him, in what he taught you, in knowing you were there when he needed you. 💜

Yikes. I can see it if you wanna split a cheap meal, but let's be honest, no one's splitting it.

Hm, maybe? The climbing stuff sounds interesting but not sure about the extensive autobiography aspect... I get bored of climbers rambling on about their personal crap fast 😅

Heck, step into the sun if things are that unbearable. Like, it's not hard to figure out something to do, but instead he spends 100+ YEARS moping around, watching ppl get killed, feeling sorry for himself. And we're supposed to believe seeing a 15-year-old is the inspiration he needed? Bro, please.

It struck me so hard on this latest rewatch that Angel had 100+ YEARS of ensouledness in which he could've done something, anything, to make a meaningful change if he felt so tortured about his past. Start helping people. Stop his mates from killing (instead of apparently playing along for years).

Oh lordy. We're on a rewatch and happened to see this one last night. I'd managed to forget how lame it was. Thank fuck for those little moments of reprieve (I'd count Giles singing Behind Blue Eyes as well). Spike and Anya should so have hung out more!

I feel y'all. I dislike public posting too, I miss being able to talk privately and I miss the peeps that didn't come here from Twitter or stopped doing social media when everything went crap. Would definitely be down for discord or wherever works.

(There are now four dog beds in the house, finally equal to the number of cats 😂)

Aldi @aldiwitch.bsky.social · 14/04/2026
The dog got a new spare bed, with the usual outcome:
A grey, fluffy, doughnut-shaped dog bed is positioned on the floor in front of a tall cat tree. Peeking out of the dog bed is the fluffy head of a medium-haired tabby. He's looking back over his shoulder at the camera inquisitively, wanting to know why his nap in his new domain has been interrupted.

Poor cat. That limits options. Prolonged worm infestations are no joke. You're very kind to be concerned, most people would just be grossed out. There's always the befriending cat via food route until you can do the collar thing but that's really just a fast track to "you now have a cat" 😅
020
Aldi @aldiwitch.bsky.social · 07/04/2026
-(google "printable paper collars for cats" or make your own) with something like "your cat may have worms, pls treat" written on it, that way you don't have to deal with them directly but they have the info.

Aldi @aldiwitch.bsky.social · 07/04/2026
If it was my cat and I'd missed it, I'd absolutely want to be informed. but the kind of people who don't stay on top of their outdoor cat's regular flea/worm treatments might unfortunately not be the kind of people who care :( If the cat(s) let you close, you could put a basic paper collar on them-

Oof, that sucks. Do you know which of the 3 it is? A cat with a severe infestation will often look kinda sick i.e. very skinny (but may have distended belly), patchy/dull coat. Depends on the type of worms tho - it may not necessarily show, but some worms are life-threatening.

It's happened at last: they have merged into Megacat. Tremble, Earth.
Two tabbies lie entangled on a dog bed. Some stripes and white socks stick out from the grey-ish, catt-ish entity but overall it's hard to tell where one ends and the other beginsThe two heads of the merged tabbies are now looking up at the camera. Apart from the heads, they appear to be sharing a grey-striped body, an unquantifiable number of paws, and one massive tail

Yeah, I don't envy anyone the headache of casting it! Just wish more productions had the guts to commit to the fact that these characters are overdramatic numpties because they're ~literal teenagers~

Aldi @aldiwitch.bsky.social · 20/03/2026
There's really no perfect solution; most adaptations have taken the same approach but at least tried to cast actors who, tho adult, can kind of pass as 10 years younger if you suspend disbelief but it's never ideal. Andrea Arnold's 2011 version still comes closest; I wish she'd done the whole thing.

-the abusive older foster brother who now magically looks 30 years younger than Heathcliff. It all adds an extra layer of unintentional hilarity to what I already perceive as the amusingly hyperdramatic hijinx of the story itself.

And I understand that there are difficult casting and directing choices to be made here, but yikes. They have him hulking in the shadows a lot hiding his face which somehow only heightens his age and bulk. The madness is heightened by the fact that they kept the same (adult) actor for Hindley-

Aldi @aldiwitch.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
To loop back to the 1978 series, they cunningly cut from 14ish Heathcliff to the adult version in ep 2, literally mid-eye close-up and, well. Ken Hutchison is a great actor. He was apparently also only 30, but I guess aging hit differently in the 70s. Anyway, this is meant to be a brooding new adult

Aldi @aldiwitch.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
Which, imo, is one of the reasons most adaptations of WH don't work very well. These characters are just actually a lot younger than most movie/TV series cast them. (I tip my hat to Andrea Arnold, the only one who committed to that AND to a dark-skinned Heathcliff).
100
Aldi @aldiwitch.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
-switch them to whoever they cast as adults, but frequently those are big name stars that just... aren't 18 to 20-something but at least a decade older, so you get a series of heightened and increasingly dramatic actions that may make sense for young/new adults but not grown-arse people.
100
Aldi @aldiwitch.bsky.social · 19/03/2026
Then it's time for the characters to grow up A FEW YEARS. Like, I don't remember their exact ages but I think canonically they go from young pre-teens to... older teens? As in, their main narrative happens when they're between 18 and somewhere in their early 20s. This is when most adaptations-

So... so far, so good. However, it's also definitely one of the adaptations that absolutely cannot hack the time jump from Heathcliff & Cathy as children to their older versions. The ep with the kid actors was excellent. The kid actors were excellent. No notes! Alas...

Watching the 1978 BBC miniseries of Wuthering Heights. It's said to be the most faithful to the source material - true so far. It's also one of the few that includes the 2nd gen story, which is, y'know, only the whole point (breaking cycle of generational violence, classism & toxic obsession, nbd)

Aldi @aldiwitch.bsky.social · 14/03/2026
It's an experience for sure 😅 I love the book and though some of the adaptations have got some things right, there isn't one that is really true to just how messed up and awful most of the characters are. People think it's a romance, which... LOL.

Going one step beyond ignoring the heinous crime that the latest adaptation of Wuthering Heights appears to be, I'm spending my Saturday evening watching the 1970 version with Timothy Dalton for the first time 🙃
