Okay, I have been fighting with photoshop all day. Gonna take a break tonight and play with something else. I really wish they did the color map over the greymask because if you try and use the shadows and highlights, the end result is sort of ashy and not forgiving outside of a narrow band of color

The way paraskins are made break my brain entirely. To get something I like, I have to go in reverse order to the way I usually think of drawing. But I can see the skin progress getting there.

Whew, I think I have finally dug out all the para textures for all lifestages that make up the skins and combined them into a single psd with each on a layer in the correct spot. It took hours but it'll help making sure that I've got everything lined up when I remake them.

My estimate of about a hundred texture maps to tweak to replace a default skin is looking closer to accurate than not. At the moment, I'm up to 78 skins, but I am missing some of the infant and toddler textures for sure.

The lighter texture has the 'is linear' box checked like the standard eyes, the darker eye has 'is linear' unchecked. Might be a potential quick workaround when the shadows on the grey map are vanishing under the color mask.

I started with eyes because there are a lot less textures than skins even though its the skins that I really want to tweak. The nice thing is because there's a mesh for each eye each with its own texture, you can test things and compare directly. The eye texture has 'is linear' as default.

I'm personally planning to bounce between Paralives and Sims. I still have lots of plans for the Pease family and Terrible Choices Cowboys. But I think Paralives has some real potential so I'll split my (admittedly minimal) cc creation between the two.

So, looks like for color mapping on the skins, black lets the base skin color you choose through, red is for body blush, green is shadows and blue is highlights. Notes for future-me :D

Hah! I have found where the texture files are stored for the default skin and eyes. I'm going to start with just replacing the eye texture as its only a few textures instead of the GIANT PILE that make up skin details. Once I've sussed it out, I'll toss up one of my crap tutorials.

I should say, I really AM impressed with the Paralives potential. There are a lot of really solid under the hood design choices to make a game designed for modders which is, at its core, what I was hoping for.
