Full disclosure: When I first glanced at this album on Bandcamp I thought it said Danny Drivr was from Australia and, when I started listening, I heard vague echoes of many beloved Flying Nun Recor…

Another Reddit discovery. This artist said “I recorded and performed noise from 1997 – 2003. I don’t remember why I stopped…” To which I say, there’s nothing wrong with an occasional sa…

#124“BPPV”Some more ominous drone action, creating a low-level vibe that something bad may be lurking. Ambient with an edge. But what about that title “BPPV”? My guess is that it refers to benign p…

Almost two weeks ago Jim Mckenna created a short-and-sweet Reddit post that said, in its entirety: “I make experimental noise, cybergrind and electronic music. All free. Enjoy.” There were a handfu…

Color me intrigued by the whole package here. First, there’s the performance. The notes on “Dottori” indicate this is “a list of doctors’ addresses, captured on a minicassette by an unknown person …

This is a fantastic dark ambient album from Pyewacket (one of the creative musical outlets for Dan Dolby). There are spirits and hauntings and general creepiness all over this thing. It’s available…

I recently visited the Six O’Matic Bandcamp page to hear their latest EP “Ascension Span,” but an earlier release caught my eye as it was described as “ambient bagpipe.” I drum in a local bagpipe b…

#121“Technology”The base noise for this piece is skittering electricity; sometimes it’s the main sound, and sometimes it’s more in the background, but always there. Some of the material sounds like…

#120“Battering Rams”The cover of this album looks to me like a father and son exhibiting some tension and/or emotional distance. Combine that with the title and I was poised for loud noise. Instead…

With that album art and the abundance of “brain” and “melt” references in the song titles, it struck me that this album from w.ravenveer is sort of a doctoral thesis in noise form regarding how the…

Pete Hope always makes such interesting music. A few years back I wrote about his 1980’s collaboration with Richard H. Kirk called “Black & White Medicine.” (You can read about it here but, sad…

#119“Be Like A Tree”There are three tracks here coming in at a little over 14 minutes each. The first and third tracks, “Be Like A Tree I” and “Be Like A Tree II,” are (spoiler alert!) similar. The…

#117“The Western Buzzer”A relatively relaxed mix of bubbling static, feedback and tone waves up and down the scale. Perhaps the title and photo are suggesting that some sort of modified vintage Wes…

#114“Nothing Under A Microscope”Time to get back to the Drumm Diary. And what better way to dip my toe back in the Kevin Drumm waters than with the shortest release I’ve listened to so far. This is…
