The ghosts of energy loss are held captive by shelterbelts! Shelterbelts can add value to your farm by helping break up wind, retain soil moisture, reduce heating costs, reduce animal mortality, provide habitat & more. What are you doing to prevent energy losses on your farm?

EFP+ counts as both an Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) and a Farmer Sustainability Assessment (FSA), helping commodity groups, buyers, and other industry partners reduce duplication for producers. Less paperwork, greater efficiency, and more time spent where it matters most: on the farm.

Residue does more than protect soil. Standing stubble and surface residue provide food, shelter, and nesting cover for birds, insects, pollinators, and other beneficial wildlife. Good residue management supports biodiversity and healthy agricultural landscapes.

Residue helps protect water quality by reducing runoff, slowing water movement across the soil surface, and keeping sediment and nutrients in the field. Healthy soils support healthy wetlands, streams, and watersheds while benefiting farm productivity.

Alberta EFP @albertaefp.bsky.social · 15/09/2026
Crop roots play an equally important role in protecting and improving our soils. While surface residues help shield the soil from wind and water erosion, roots help hold soil particles together, improve water infiltration, and add valuable organic matter as they decompose.

Protect soil moisture. Build resilience. Standing stubble and surface residue help trap snow, reduce evaporation, improve infiltration, and even help manage salinity as spring melt moves salts deeper into the soil. #efp #abefp #sustainableagriculture #sustainablefarming #albertaag #agriculture

Crop residue protects Alberta soils from wind and water erosion, reduces surface crusting, and helps maintain soil structure. It also slows runoff, allowing more moisture to soak into the soil. Managing residue is a simple way to protect soil productivity and build crop resiliance bit.ly/4x9wvyl

Harvest means more farm equipment on Alberta roads. Farmers: check lights, reflectors, and SMV signs before every trip. Drivers: slow down, be patient, and only pass when it's safe. A little courtesy goes a long way in helping everyone get home safely.

Emergencies don't just affect people. They can also put livestock at risk. Prepare a plan that includes emergency feed and water supplies, transportation options, and identification for your animals if evacuation becomes necessary.

Harvest is one of the highest fire risk times of the year. Before heading to the field, clean chaff from equipment, inspect belts and bearings, carry a charged fire extinguisher, and keep a water tank or disc nearby in dry conditions. A few minutes of preparation can help prevent a costly field fire
