alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 08/10/2026I haven't read your book, but congratulations--it's impressive to see Anne Carson invoked in the review. 010
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Well, Dolly Parton didn't talk about "politics," but lived her life, and made statements about love, kindness, and fairness, in a way that made it very obvious what she believed in. Maybe try that. 030
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Yes, Fra Filippo at his best! Also the precursor of (and model for) the landscape settings Leonardo would paint 20 years later. 040
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Perhaps the midterm elections in Brumaire will slow down the madness. 001
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 28/09/2026I guess that's also why we love to order "brushettas" at Italian restaurants. 020
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 23/09/2026"Our mission is to create a better fantasy world" 000
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 22/09/2026What was the movie in which Clint Eastwood recited W.B. Yeats poems in Irish? 000
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 14/09/2026So lovely to see the subject of my master's thesis paying tribute to the subject of my dissertation! 020
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 13/09/2026Yes, a bad argument in numerous ideological ways, but also a really muddled bit of cultural analysis, conflating apples, oranges and, um, speedometers ("hey, they're all fruits"). 1140
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 12/09/2026Ah, well; I guess when your party nominates Jill Stein in three out of the last four presidential elections, it suggests there's exactly not a deep bench. 080
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Well, we were advised (pre-AI) that we should try to avoid requiring students to purchase books. And of course AI relieves students of any need to consult them at all, so win-win, I guess. 0122
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 02/09/2026I can certainly see choosing to use a product or a business if the good we derive from it outweighs the bad it does. We make such calculations all the time. In this case we're talking about a streaming version of the literary equivalent of store-brand potato chips. Don't have to lose sleep over it. 040
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 26/08/2026These two need to find one another, so that they can be blissfully unhappy together. 000
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 23/08/2026Happy birthday, and congratulations on both the Rangoon dip and the new play (not necessarily in that order). 010
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 23/08/2026My question is who asked for the meeting? I've agreed to plenty of meetings in order to clarify, not to compromise. 011
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 23/08/2026Well, it's sometimes hard to remember that it's Hawaiian. 030
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 20/08/2026Veterans did support Trump by a fairly wide margin; extrapolate from that what you will. There's no reason to believe that active duty military are "smarter" or "dumber" than the rest of America, or to make assumptions about individuals based on statistics. (Said as a Dem-voting boomer...) 120
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 17/08/2026Good points, certainly. But at this point, are we really sure we won't be deciding the next election on the basis of cage fights on the White House lawn? You can't fully write off anyone at this point. 000
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 11/08/2026Yes, though I don't quite understand how Renaissance art poisoned us any more than Jerome's Vulgate, & every other scriptural translation rendering God as a masculine singular noun. Painters did what they were paid to do--make an incorporeal being as a visible entity. Through a glass darkly, etc. 000
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 11/08/2026Well, at least one degree better than the hair gel scene in "There's Something About Mary." 000
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 11/08/2026Dead figure of Judas (exposed gut?) Or just death through failed appendectomy? 000
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 03/08/2026Still, you've got to admire a man who is so moved by a cardboard cutout of himself. 050
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 03/08/2026If we're going to do that, let's also test testosterone levels for all athletes. Because if we really care about fairness, anyone whose testosterone level exceeds the average range will have an unfair advantage, and should be banned. 010
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 30/07/2026Perhaps you need an illuminated manuscript to go with it? 010
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 26/07/2026Nothing goes better with a cold glass of Carista cerveza... 000
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 26/07/2026Gee, I wonder if Cicero had anything to say about those who cite him as the author of words he never wrote? 010
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 12/07/2026Well, hell is the result of getting tangled up with the wrong people. 010
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 11/07/2026Mine always started on July 5, the week after parking lot nurseries converted to fireworks stands, and state legislators began to sharpen their knives. 000
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 03/07/2026Even a single military jet (F-18? F-35?) flying over Lincoln, NE would literally shake the walls of my house. The weekend sounds like it will be horrible--though maybe the vibrations will be enough to loose the super-glued gold-plated froufrou from the Oval Office walls. 020
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 02/07/2026Thank you so much--for your explanations, as well as links to supporting evidence. 010
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 02/07/2026Thank you. As long as you are writing, I think I can survive the attack on all things I value. 000
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 28/06/2026Perhaps your most beautiful drawing. The 1626 letter you sent to Dupuis describing your love and grief at her passing still moves me to this day. 000
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 27/06/2026The most troubling thing is that she was totally unable to explain her ideas, much less relate them to a specific instance. (The latter stumped Michael Dukakis as well, in re the death penalty & hypothetical murder of his wife). 110
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 24/06/2026I always wonder whether making these claims nationally produces an accurate picture. A lot depends on the city/district/state one is talking about. Progressives are more easily elected in the House than the Senate, and as long as there's an electoral college, I fear the presidency isn't possible. 010
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 23/06/2026Well, maybe it will allow Springer to focus more on bankrupting university libraries. 010
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 22/06/2026Yes, as someone who spent decades teaching in a similar midwestern university, the novel was very resonant (students! colleagues!! administrators!!!). But the thing I loved is that it treats that experience as one particular case of the larger human experience. 000
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 22/06/2026I'm sure he enjoys leaving the sauerkraut off his hamburger. 000
alb28.bsky.social @alb28.bsky.social · 14/06/2026Lovely! It's not a domestic interior, I gather--do we know what it is? 000
