To Carry You Home — the fifth extended play — 'Evergreen' July 28th
This wasn't supposed to happen
Typically, you're supposed to call a trilogy a trilogy and move on. The best things come in threes after all. Typically, a follow-up on that is a gamble, a make-or-break. It can serve to onlv enhance the foundation you've writing upon, or it can thoroughly tarnish the legacy of what was once enjoyed as an impactful body of work before. There's a lot that we need to talk about, just so you know why I'm making that gamble.
Through the vast exposure that has led me to the upbringing in which I thought I desired, I have found that I Was robbed of my childhood, and I'm in part to blame for that.
I have allowed the trauma that overtook me as a child to continue to control and dictate every part of my life. Therapy sessions had often come and gone with no progress, and that's partially due to my inability to open up. I would bottle these emotions to the point where I became entirely unable to correctly articulate them, so my treatment was often left inconclusive. Within that lack of lucidity, I have perpetuated toxic behaviors, including insecurity, hypersexualization envy and vindictiveness, for a number of years, which has essentially excommunicated me from a majority of spaces where I was once trusted by good people.
When I left Maine at the start of this year, I really, truly believed that this was the fresh start that I had been needing to figure all of this out, but after a while, I put it off, and turned to alcohol to mask the emotional turmoil I allowed myself to spiral into. Turns out, the alcohol onlv amplifiec and shined a light on the person I was capable of being, that other people saw in me but I was convinced I'd never see in myself. She was the opposite of who I see in the mirror: That's a terrifying thing to look back on.
In and out of Maine, I have affected a lot of people, whether positively or negatively. It's difficult to accept that a majority of it was negative through behaviors I still believe will take a long time bef…The truth is, I became Alaska Sargent because I wanted to be authentically me, through the trials, the tribulations, the ups and downs, Heaven and Hell. I never expected that my lack of growth my inability to change until it was too late, and my deepest fears being truly realized, would take effect while making this commitment. Sometimes, I still wish I could run away from it all, but that's not how I was raised. I should be able to run with it instead.
Over the past few months, I've been in treatment. Although my sessions didn't last too long with my previous therapist due to the cost, I am now lined up for weekly in-person sessions. I have grown a lot to where I am finally able to say what's on my mind, and it feels relieving to know that I am in an environment where I won't be iudged, but I will be guided toward the right path Alongside this, I found God on the night of Camp Boneyard. It's ironic, considering we performed in a church, and I still don't consider myself to belong to any specific religion, but I've been exploring my spirituality, and it's opened my eyes up to a lot of things. The beauty of the world around me has taken precedence.
I've also been working with people I trust on an emotional and professional level to form a community venture, which will give back to the scene that raised me, that allowed me to have the career I do now. I've been doing extensive research on mutual aid and how hope can be distributed throughout the internet, and I am excited to continue exploring that with my friend Sam Taylor, who signed on board to assist me with the project and organization. The purpose of the organization will be to assist fellow musicians with expenses, such as medical bills, food and shelter. We will be launching soon, just need to figure out a few more things on the legal end before it's all good to go.During this time, I also looked back to where it all began. Although it's only a compilation now, four years ago was around the time where I released three extended plays in one year, all as part of a trilogy. The order was To Drown, To Thin Air and To Hear Your Voice. Each title turned into its own story, as I crumbled before my own weight, my vessel dissipated as I travelled into the unknown, and I found a glimmer of hope among the stars.
Putting those pieces together again helped me realize that the story wasn't fully concluded yet There was still one last song I needed to write, one last lyric to evoke an emotion. All it took was age, even though I sometimes still feel as if I'm the same child that wrote Run Away (ou're To Blame). This journey has reignited my passion for music, and has allowed me to find my way back to reality, to find my way home. I hope that this collection of songs will be a guide for you to do the same, no matter what you are going through
That is why I have named my fifth extended play, To Carry You Home. It consists of five tracks spans almost twenty minutes and will be available in digital and physical form no later than this September.
The first track, as well as the first single, Evergreen, will be available on July 28th, and you can pre-save it now through the link in my bio.
I thank you humbly for giving me another chance to add some music to your day
Love and mercy. Alaska Sargent
