Amazing. We’re a similar age but nobody I knew age 16 was remotely that cool.

At the risk of being “that humourless Bluesky guy”, I recently invested in a new fridge, the door of which actually seals properly meaning: - No cold feet by fridge - No need to change temperature setting - Truly massive energy cost saving Everyone should get a new fridge!

I know this isn’t the main point, but “Cromwell Club”? What? Does Restore Britain want to restore the republic?

Does he need to take his seat for the investigation to recommence? Could his next Cunning Plan be to not take his seat on some kind of BS “anti establishment” position? It’s not like he attended parliament anyway.

He doesn’t even have the decency to make his statement in Clacton.

There’s a really entertaining podcast about just this… Dan Pashman invented a shape “Cascatelli” the shape to end all shapes. My default mode is sceptical but I was surprised how brilliantly it works… shame you cant get it in the UK afaik… www.sporkful.com/how-to-buy-c...

I’m glad it’s a common occurrence. I’ve often felt stupidly guilty where archivists have spent ages digging out four ancient files only for me to flick through and return them after 2 minutes as irrelevant.

I genuinely didn’t realise that voice notes were a way people regularly communicated until listening to Murder of a Famous Bastard.

“Isn’t everyone just auto-enrolled these days?” was my first thought. I’d be curious to know how many are opting out.

Wow that’s very surprising. Really strange given the enormous tax incentives at the higher earning end.

But it didn’t need to cause the doom! His successor could have just said “let’s defer to a royal commission” or at the very least not have drawn red lines that caused the doom ever since. There could have been ways out. May chose not to. And THAT is what caused the never ending doom spiral.

This was great, and I don't remember reading this originally. Naturally I had to look at it on Google Maps, and I noticed a little bit of Germany poking into Belgium (maps.app.goo.gl/tLmaTWRJSXRk...) Upon research, it turns out it was a cemetery for plague victims from Aachen - the "Melatenwiese".

Free museums really give a positive view of a city to a visitor. Washington DC is a good example, and many other US cities (like St Louis) too. I was infuriated a few years ago to find the Met in NY had stopped their “pay what you want” entry for non-residents only.

One of the great things about free museums is you can just drop in for a few minutes, if you don’t like it you can move on. If we want to show off Britain to tourists, free museums really allow that flexibility for a time-constrained visitor.

@thebeautyoftransport.com my copy of Trackside Transformation turned up today. It is a truly tremendous work, I can’t think of a superlative sufficient enough. The pictures are stunning, the information amazing. Far, far more detailed than I had expected. Brilliant work both of you!

Just do something - anything, frankly, at this stage - to make people’s lives noticeably better. The political ideology is less important - just make lives better. Then people will vote for you.

What’s infuriating is, this really isn’t aligned with the public view. There are quite a few polls like this one www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Majority of Brexit voters ‘would accept free movement’ to access single market
Europe-wide polling finds UK and EU leaders now out of step with public opinion and pursue ‘ambitious reset’

It always surprises me how The Day Today aged so much better than the original series of Brass Eye which bizarrely seems far more dated.

Same in Oslo - the “flytoget” takes the same length of time as regular trains and is £20 not £10. Baffling.

Also, there is very recognisable railway heritage which you may stumble across in a number of places.

One thing that sticks in my mind about Malta was the adorably cute dinky bin trucks they had driving around the narrow streets of Valletta.

“Why do I know that name?” Then it clicked… he wrote a not insignificant proportion of the rather faded and well-thumbed Rough Guides filling up my bookshelf. Thanks for all the tips, Jonathan 🍻
