Congressman Mike Collins wins the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate, the AP called, and will face Sen. Jon Ossoff in November. Collins, who got a last minute endorsement from Trump, beat former TN football coach Derek Dooley, who is backed by Gov. Brian Kemp and ran as a political outsider.

In other races, the AP has called both the Democratic and Republican races for Secretary of State. Republican voters picked state Rep. Tim Fleming over election denier Vernon Jones. And on the Democratic side, voters picked Penny Brown Reynolds over Dana Barrett.

It's too early to draw any conclusions but interesting that Rick Jackson is leading in the early vote from the few counties that have started reporting those numbers. Gov. Brian Kemp made a last minute endorsement for Burt Jones, so that may change once election day votes are reported. Stay tuned!

It's Sine Die in the Georgia Assembly, and for many lawmakers, it's also "Seersucker Day," a tradition to wear the breathable fabric that likely dates back to before the Capitol had AC, one Rep said. Another lawmaker said partaking in the tradition helps them get through the expected long day.

Bibb County Sheriff David Davis said after he was prevented from speaking that he'll do what he can to ensure citizens have due process when dealing with ICE, but that changes need to come from a federal level.

An agitated crowd prevented Bibbs County Sheriff David Davis from speaking at No Kings due to the county's agreement with ICE. No Kings organizers met with Davis previously and had asked him to address concerns at the protest.

Macon, Ga residents Kim Martin and stepson Landen Martin are attending the No Kings 3 demonstration about 80 miles south of Atlanta because they haven't seen the change yet they hoped to see from the first two protests.

The dogs of the No Kings protest in Atlanta. Despite only being 6-months old, Rahul Bose, sitting in front of the "No kings, No ICE" poster, is a frequent protester, starting with the Tesla Takedown protests earlier this year. "Ruff," he said. Jax, a 1 year old German Shepherd, wanted to play.

Stacey Abrams just took the stage and gave a warning in her speech, detailing the "10 Steps to Autocracy" the current administration has taken. Abrams said that the opposition's destination is division and destruction, saying "this is not normal, it's intentional."

The protest is currently being interrupted by a loud group of about 10 people, one holding a "Don't thread on me" flag. Protesters are following them and trying to drown them out.

At the "No Kings" protest in Montgomery. Michael Brown said he's here because he wants to show there's a different side to Alabama. "We were brought up to love and treat everyone with respect and kindness and dignity. I don't think people are getting that from the current Administration," he said.

Sen. Rodger Smitherman, D-Birmingham, upset the Senate is not considering Democratic legislation Thursday, said he'll be filibustering every piece of legislation on the floor today. He said "everybody wants you to be in your place, but being in your place means you get nothing."

In case anyone would like to join me in wishing this good boy a happy birthday, Cortez turns seven years old today. He's getting gray fur around his snout and I literally shed a tear the other day because of it.

I'm counting about, at least, 600 people at the protest, but it could easily be over 1,000. I can only post 60 seconds but the march went for another minute.

I'm all strapped in for Alabama 2025 Legislative Session, which starts today. I'll be covering the Senate, @annabjournalist.bsky.social will be in the House. Excited to start my 5th session (two regular, two special down), though I feel like I'm just starting to scratch the surface of #alpolitics.

Authorities are asking that people stay off the road if possible, but there is nothing wrong with going for a walk! I took Cortez to get some pictures of the Alabama State Capitol this afternoon. The story was also updated with an afternoon update from the Alabama Emergency Management Agency.

The ending of this email about the DEI lawsuit I wrote about yesterday has got me a bit confused. I'd say I'm a bit ambidextrous but definitely am not left-handed.

Some of these PR pitches are wild. I was robbed at gunpoint back in college, and it was anything but "the best thing that ever happened to me." In fact, I still get flashbacks from that time, and it happened about 10 years ago.
Email from a publicist titled "Why being held at gunpoint was the best thing that ever happened to me"

Email body:

Hi Alander,

John R. Miles unexpectedly came home early from the gym one morning to not only find an active burglary but one that resulted in having a gun pointed directly at him. That brush with death was his wake-up call and led him to reevaluate everything and question the true meaning of his existence. It was the catalyst that led him to create his 'Passion Struck’ brand and today he uses that to inspire others that they matter.
