The cost of Westminster is worth examining but, let's be clear, there is no such thing as "taxpayer's money" as you express it. People have money and pay tax and at that point it is no longer their money and they have no rights over it.

Allowing an international market for land was always going to end in tears. It is a major cause of inflation, of wealth extraction and of increasing poverty. Worse, not taxing land deals propery.

Westminster fails to maintain infrastructure and services, so why shouid we be surprised when they fail to maintain the citizenry?

Stop giving his bank money, unless it pays it's fair share of UK resources.

1. Wealth is divided unequally. 2. Wealth has most power. 3. Wealth has paid for tax changes that skew towards them. 4. Wealth claims that wealth comes from their brilliance. 5. Wealth doesn't pay properly for most of the real costs of their acquisition.

Why are most English politicians and journalists peddling false economics? I listened to Jenrick and his words do not gel with Reform headlines. Until welfare is lauded as an essential part of the economy, we are doomed to drift downward into further inequality and poverty.

OK BBC, is there anyone in #bbcnews who understands economics? Welfare is an essential component in constraining the bad side effects of market economics. Cutting it will diminish economic activity and put more cash into wealthy bank accounts and shareholding - reducing the economy.

Finance has always been a barrier. F1 used to be the preserve of the wealthy and largely it still is. The inequality, that Westminster has increased, limits many lives. Another example of the myth of "the market" solving all problems. www.bbc.com/news/article...

An essential element in EU purchasing, which UK officials didn't understand or bother with, is local benefit. What tax would derive and where, where supplies would be sourced, what environmental benefits, jobs, training etc.

Westminster will do the minimum to appear as if they have done something significant. It will not be enough, it will put extra costs on the least able to pay and it will put most of the spend into large corporate hands.

BBC headline "Drug gangs causing Ecuador's state of emergency." Well, yes. And no. US tried prohibition of alcohol. It failed and caused a huge rise in violent criminal activity. The Republican idiot Nixon, not having learnt the lesson, declared a War on Drugs. That too has failed, so blame Nixon.

Burnham, having announced the failure of Westminster to deliver adequate education, has fallen flat by assuming that the only purpose of school is to get a job. How sad. How lacking in ambition. How about ensuring that every child is fully prepared for adult life, in all it's complexity?

Burnham has announced the abject failure of Westminster to provide a decent education to millions of children. His fix is late and simplistic. It is more about a headline than about the huge changes needed to ensure children are prepared for life. So far, not impressive.

The single most damaging act was Thatcher opening up UK property for sale to all comers. The resulting house price inflation has radically undermined the "real" economy. Supply and demand cannot drive the creation of more land, so prices have rocketed. Neoliberal insanity.

Increasing personal allowance benefits higher paid much more than the poor. Until Westminster creates a positive tax to give extra to the poor, this mechanism will always fail.

Sarwar's "promotion" is an insult to Scotland. After Burnham's conversation with our First Minister, the selection of Sarwar flies in the face of democracy. It is typical of Tsarist Labour to ride roughshod over Holyrood. Especially as he appears to be pinching SNP policies in his speeches.

While I have no issue with his appointment, it will be a first, in recent times, if he carries through the policy promises that got Labour elected. We Scots are deeply distrustful of Labour intentions and fearful that the advances made by Holyrood to mitigate Westminster austerity are at risk.

If he reduces lower income tax rate or lifts the threshold, he'll put more money in the pockets if the higher paid. To make a real difference, he should introduce a positive tax, whereby money can be given to the poor without benefitting the better off. Plus big raise to minimum wage, phased in.
