Our new paper is out in the Journal of Neuroscience & made the cover! @sfnjournals.bsky.social Long-term live imaging showed that superficial corneal axons are continuously remodeled, while deep ones remain stable. Great work by @BizzarriElena Quentin Rappeneau & the whole team shorturl.at/i08F5
Shown is a mouse cornea, which protects tissues of the inner eye from the environment and is innervated by sensory inputs from the brain. This image displays neural extensions, or axons, forming the typical axonal vortex. Anti-ßIII tubulin (magenta) labels all axons, and those that specifically support pain processing express GFP (cyan).

#JNeurosci: Findings from Bizzarri et al. provide a framework for understanding alterations in corneal innervation in conditions like sensory neuropathies and establishes a simple method for long-term imaging of corneal nerve in mice. doi.org/10.1523/JNEUROSCI.2089-25.2…
A series of microscopic images displaying cellular structures and stromal networks. The images are labeled with cases and time progression.

Happy to announce that our latest paper is now out! Have you ever wondered how neural tissues control their size? In this paper, we show that cell division orientation is critical in both the cortex and retina. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...
science.org
Oriented cell divisions induce basal progenitors and regulate neural expansion across tissues and species
A fundamental role for division orientation in progenitor output driving cortical and retinal growth is revealed.

Impressive & clever. A light-sheet microscope with isotropic resolution <1 μm. Uses a using a concave mirror to correct optical abberation and swipes the light sheet. Validated on mouse brain vasculature & cochlea . @aakhte.bsky.social Huisken lab www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

For a #FluorescenceFriday that took our team 17 people & over 5 years to complete, we wish you a Happy Valentine’s Day with a deep dive into the developing human heart (before it grows heavy or breaks), available at @dev-journal.bsky.social : journals.biologists.com/dev/article/...
Human fetal heart at 9 post-conceptional weeks, immunostained for blood vessels in pink (PECAM1) and developing autonomic nerves in yellow (PRPH). Acquired on a Miltenyi Blaze light-sheet microscope. Movies online much prettier than this lossy GIF.
