Except the AI redo in this case is slop. Overdone, way too busy, hitting you over the head with extras to make sure you get the point. The original is so much better; less is more.

You’re telling me that for a subscription fee, I can use a service that has been rushed to market, sold by an unaccountable corporation that is run by people who know the way to boost stock prices is to tell Wall Street that their product will change everything in the world, probably?

Of course we will. They’re the dominant airline for many destinations globally.

Yeah, it’s not a new issue. If they truly cared about the “slaves” in their ranks, they’d have held fast before. All the people holding CUPE up as some saviour of the working class are naive. They’re playing a PR & negotiation game, same as AC.

aksonnic.bsky.social @aksonnic.bsky.social · 20/08/2025
They’ve used unpaid ground time to get higher wage increases & guaranteed cancellation pay, largely to benefit senior FAs. They used “modern day slavery” as a bargaining chip and PR slogan.

“At least” 60minutes. That means guaranteed 1hr, but maybe more. At least that’s how I read it.

“Agreed” - CUPE

We don’t yet know if it’s capped or not so a lot of details still to come. Sure, it’s more than the company was offering, but seems some FAs are not liking it so far.

They accepted unpaid ground time in exchange for higher block time wages. It was good for sr members, who tend to do long hauls where ratio of block/ground is higher. Totally screwed juniors/short haulers. Solidarity is a bit of an illusion…

If you’re an FA who was expecting full wages for ground time you’ve got to be a bit miffed at this deal.
010
aksonnic.bsky.social @aksonnic.bsky.social · 20/08/2025
Yeah, unless there’s a cap to it? Gives enough time for the other airline unions to negotiate the same deal so everyone is charging more for flights to cover extra expense. Lower flight wage increases, so senior staff might be pissed. Definitely sounds like shell game for optics.

AC was offering ground pay. This deal doesn’t sound all that different. www.cbc.ca/news/busines...

So yeah, 50% for at least 60min. And 21% increases over 4yrs. Doesn’t sound dramatically different from the last AC offer, tbh. www.cbc.ca/news/busines...

Why Flight Attendants Don't Get Paid Until Aircraft Doors Close - View from the Wing

Do the math on the minimum wage thing. It’s heavily biased and compares apples to oranges.

They are pretty much saying the same thing. They are comparing 160hrs/month at minimum wage to 75 hrs/month at lowest FA salary. Of course that going to be lower; it’s a part time job.

“Fine with it” the the general sense of give&take during negotiations. Do wages need to go up? Of course, it’s been 10yrs. Should they be paid for every hour? Maybe. Then are they going to accept lower wage increases to counteract the inflated ones they got by agreeing to unpaid?

aksonnic.bsky.social @aksonnic.bsky.social · 18/08/2025
I’m on the FA’s side; AC is generally a shit corp. But I dislike the “modern day slavery” “unpaid won’t fly” rhetoric when the union has been agreeing to this, mostly for the benefit of senior members. They accepted it in exchange for higher wages in the avg. They know this. They were fine w/ it.
200
aksonnic.bsky.social @aksonnic.bsky.social · 18/08/2025
The unpaid time is in the contract the union negotiated 10yrs ago. They agreed to it. The latest AC offer actually includes pay for hours worked.
100
aksonnic.bsky.social @aksonnic.bsky.social · 18/08/2025
Corps don’t just “meet demands.” It’s a negotiation. By that logic, CUPE had plenty of time to accept AC’s offer. Of course they have money to meet any demand; that’s not how this works though.
100
aksonnic.bsky.social @aksonnic.bsky.social · 18/08/2025
You should also mention that the unpaid time was negotiated and agreed to by the union. For decades now. And AC’s latest offer got rid of unpaid time.

Umm, all of them in North America, except Delta.
000
aksonnic.bsky.social @aksonnic.bsky.social · 18/08/2025
If I had to guess, I’d say they’ll take the 50% pay and maybe slightly higher than offered CoL increases over the contract. Maybe extend the definition of block time. But they aren’t going to get full pay for every hour.

aksonnic.bsky.social @aksonnic.bsky.social · 18/08/2025
Ffs, nobody is being forced to do anything. They aren’t chained to the trolleys at night. The UNION negotiated unpaid time in exchange for higher block wages among other things, mostly benefiting senior members. AC is offering pay for non-block time in latest offer.
000
aksonnic.bsky.social @aksonnic.bsky.social · 18/08/2025
AC may consider paying them full pay for some non-block time, but they’d have to give up some pay increases that were inflated purposely over the past decades by both sides to account for the non-flying time. But see how the union would react to that…
100
aksonnic.bsky.social @aksonnic.bsky.social · 18/08/2025
The contract negotiated by the union includes the unpaid time provisions. AC wasn’t going to pay them when they agreed to not get paid.
000
aksonnic.bsky.social @aksonnic.bsky.social · 18/08/2025
The collective agreement expired in March. AC has been flying since then, so yes, they agreed to continue. Until they didn’t of course.
100
aksonnic.bsky.social @aksonnic.bsky.social · 18/08/2025
Well, yes. But the current contract always continues during negotiations. My point is, the union agreed to unpaid time. Members should be asking their reps why.
100
aksonnic.bsky.social @aksonnic.bsky.social · 18/08/2025
The union negotiated the unpaid time 10 years ago in exchange for higher wages, specifically for senior union members.

The union negotiated the unpaid ground time provisions in exchange for higher block wages, among other things. Maybe members should ask their union why they made them work unpaid.

In part, the unpaid time was in part an exchange for higher wages for senior union members, so really they screwed over the juniors.
120
aksonnic.bsky.social @aksonnic.bsky.social · 18/08/2025
1. AC isn’t demanding unpaid work. The unpaid ground time was agreed to by the union in exchange for other items and is in the current contract. AC’s latest offer actually pays them for ground time. 2. Probably not since it’s been done before. 3. Yeah, that decision was dumb AF by all involved.

aksonnic.bsky.social @aksonnic.bsky.social · 18/08/2025
The union agreed to the unpaid ground time in exchange for, among other things, higher block time wages. Those wages need to increase after 10yrs of course, but they knew exactly what they were getting.
120
aksonnic.bsky.social @aksonnic.bsky.social · 18/08/2025
They are still being paid during negotiations. They also agreed to not be paid for boarding time. That’s what the contract says. They want to change that now, but every single one of them knew what the contract was when they joined.
110
aksonnic.bsky.social @aksonnic.bsky.social · 17/08/2025
The union negotiated that contract. The airline was paying them according to the contract they had.
