Movie honestly wasn't as bad as people are saying. It seems like they took criticisms of the first one really seriously. There's only one licensed music track, a lot of the stank Illumination humor is toned down, and it has the BONES of a good story. The animation is really pretty good, and so is the score. The only problem is the plot. It's like every non-fight scene had a minute or two cut from it. I swear they make references to plot points that are just missing from the final product. Jokes and exposition aren't really set up correctly so the entire thing falls completely flat. Character arcs that were set up never resolve, ESPECIALLY with Bowser. Even the ending is super abrupt and just, like, ends moments after the final fight is over. Nothing learned, nothing gained, nothing lost. They win, go home. I would totally believe this was no fault of Illumination and was a boneheaded move made by a figurehead at one of the three companies involved. "Kids movies need to be short, like their attention spans! The test audience agrees!" Really a shame. All the ideas and scenes seem genuinely great and well thought out. Could've been a solid 9 but is more of a shaky 6. Might slip to a 5. Wasted potential.

PS:
How are you going to claim Charles Martinet as lead would be annoying and then put Donald Glover screeching his baritone throat out for 90 minutes? That Yoshi voice was ASS. Everyone else was mediocre to decent. Except for Charlie Day. He's perfect.
