My team's out for the baseball playoffs and I refuse to cheer for the Yankees or the Dodgers on principle. Who should be my guys for October?

I wonder if the actual guy Nicholas of Myra has, from heaven, seen the Santa Claus legend unfold and what he thinks of it. "Y'all, I'm Turkish, I never met a reindeer in my life." "Elves? Magical creatures? I don't think they exist but if they do they're probably from the devil."

in 1908 a book was published called 365 dishes of all nations, with a recipe per day from somewhere overseas. someone made it a website so you can look up the recipe for a particular day. historicalfoodie.com/365-dishes-o... my birthday dish is a not-terrible-sounding madras-style fish--i'd try it

We have a similar problem in that the Houston metro area spans about four or five different counties, so on occasion we get folks who work in the city proper (which is in one county) but live out in the suburbs (which are in different counties)

It's actually kind of hilarious bc we have a high percentage of international students and so they're baffled by the whole idea

Excellent. (I'm a volunteer voter registrar and I try to get the kids on campus to sign up so they don't have to think about absentee ballots.)

This not only means our borders are closed to those fleeing religious persecution - it also means that those who are here are arrested, imprisoned, & often deported to the places that torture you for being Christian or the “wrong” religion.

little girls shouldn't have to be this brave.

According to the affidavit, Heather Thompson Day was allegedly made aware of the abuse and did not intervene. Her daughter told police that in the past, Heather Thompson Day had taken her to the doctor and that her mother told healthcare providers she did not know how the injuries had occurred. The daughter alleged her mother told her to wear a mask to cover injuries to her face.

Fun fact: As of yesterday, Jose Altuve has appeared in more postseason baseball games than 17 actual MLB teams.

I feel like more people need to learn that their anxiety and trauma don't need to be made public and/or made the problem of strangers.

What makes a church a church is not the absence of conflict. It’s learning to address conflict in the way of Jesus. With truth, humility, courage, forgiveness, and love.

I don't know why but the Astros making the postseason with a worse record than teams that were last in their division is so funny and weird to me Like look at this, it's so silly

Jim Henson would have been 90 (yup, you read that right: NINETY) years old today. You can celebrate his life by celebrating creativity, diversity, peace, imagination, and silliness.

A tuxedoed Jim Henson sits in a sea of Muppets.

it's a commentary on american masculinity (especially the fragility of its ego) and how it treats both the divine and the feminine (often not especially well, it turns out), but also itself (again, often not especially well)

This is wild because I did spend the first six years of my life in St. Louis and was raised by a Missourian mother, but I've lived in Texas for most of my life

A map of the United States with the caption "Your dialect map: Redder areas talk more like you; bluer areas least. You talk most like someone from Missouri -- about 57% of your answers match a typical resident." The red areas are mostly in the west and midwest; the southeast is mostly orange; New England and the mid-Atlantic states are very blue.
