Dat bleek gisteren tijdens een debat in perscentrum Nieuws- poort.De VVD gunt Nederlanders in het buitenland een dubbele nationaliteit, maar wil voorko- men dat migranten die naar Nederland komen daar ook recht op krijgen. Alle partijen rechts van de VVD zijn om die reden ook tegen het wetsvoorstel.

Uit het interview in de Volkskrant met Jelmer Dam, landelijk regisseur natuurbrand van de brandweer. Naast branden heeft de brandweer te maken met vergiftigde geesten.

Gesprekken over natuurbranden wekken geregeld maatschappelijke weerstand op vanwege de link met klimaatverandering. Voorziet u problemen?

Er is inderdaad tegendruk, bijvoorbeeld mensen die zeggen dat natuurbranden niet ontstaan door het klimaat, maar door pyromanen. Of door ongelukken. Dat klopt ook uiter- aard, maar het feit blijft dat de omgeving aan het veranderer is. Daardoor is het resultaat van pyromanen en ongelukken vele malen groter, simpelweg omdat alles brandbaarder is door de droogte. Ons natuurbrandteam krijgt nu al dreigbrieven, dat we linkse wappies zijn. Of brieven, geschreven met van die los- se. uit kranten geknipte letters, waarin staat dat mensen tij- dens de Tweede Wereldoorlog om minder zijn geliquideerd. Zelf probeer ik het woord klimaatverandering daarom zo veel mogelijk te vermijden. In het openbaar spreek ik liever over de droogte en de hitte, omdat echt niemand kan ont- kennen dat het deze zomer droog en warm is. En hoe min- der discussies over dit onderwerp losbarsten, hoe gemakkelijker het wordt om structurele maatregelen te nemen.
