Building p2p apps made me like Android more. It lets your app keep running in the background, while iOS suspends it within seconds of leaving the screen, and for p2p that means your peer just drops offline.

the problem with append-only logs is: - you cannot delete messages - you cannot edit messages or groups - the sender and receiver have to be online during the transfer if you want any of these, there has to be an authority. but hey, we're talking about the permanent web here!

encryption only does not give you privacy people. signal or proton mail can still be shut down or hacked. i'm talking about agency. the only way to truly own your data is to control it yourself, without any authority controlling.

@peersky is not just a browser, it can do so many things. I don’t like describing it as a “browser”. I want wording that non-tech people can easily understand. These days, I describe it as: “What if you could turn your browser into a server?” and then explain what that means.

We're not far from the era where people will put chips inside their brains for enhanced intelligence. What scares me is that at some point, people might have to wait to skip ads or pay for a premium subscription just to "think", with surveillance layered on top.

I've been using PeerChat as a TA for CSE 185 in UCSC also PeerSky work communication. I love seeing human errors in messages, they don't look AI generated, why is that? hyper is append-only log, deleting or editing is not possible, so people are just being themselves :p I find myself using it […]
