I don’t have much to share about it— not really into the performing feelings thing. But I always felt so safe on that campus. This is the first time since COVID prematurely ended my time there that I’ve felt grateful to be away from it, and the dissonance of that is very strange

Haven’t spent much time on this app lately, but checked in today, and the first few posts I saw were about the shooting at my alma mater instead of random inane crap. I should be more active on here again, I think

I’ve been wanting to write this one for a long time, and a second-watch eureka moment with THE PHOENICIAN SCHEME pushed me to finally do it! Wes Anderson is maybe my favorite filmmaker. I have a theory about why his movies look the way they do screenrant.com/wes-anderson...

They just seem like the two contenders for film of the year so far for me, but it’s also a useful test for the reception of MICKEY 17, which was positive but felt a little muted. Plenty of people might say they liked it, but how many more than SINNERS?

This isn’t usually how I spend my workday, but I talked to an economist about Trump’s proposed 100% tariff on movies produced abroad. Turns out, it makes as little sense as you think it does! screenrant.com/donald-trump...

Wrote this back in March, when I saw DREAMS (SEX LOVE) for its Italian release, and I'm glad it's finally surfaced. I felt good about it as soon as I finished, and those come along rarely enough that they shouldn't sit on the shelf. Plus, it's a really lovely movie! screenrant.com/dreams-dag-j...

Coolest insight: Fundamentally, all we can know about another person is what they choose to show us. We can guess at their thoughts, but never really know them. Where we choose to place our trust is, for him, the essential question, and he thinks all his films are to some extent about that betrayal

I really think your response to MICKEY 17 is determined by whether you vibe with its sense of humor. If you can’t lock onto the initial tone, the way the rest are calibrated won’t feel quite right

Meanwhile, IN THE LOST LANDS is terrible. I'm generally a very forgiving critic (what can I say? I like movies!), but it actually made me angry that I spent time watching this. The only thing that helped was knowing I had my MICKEY 17 screening around the corner screenrant.com/in-the-lost-...

Here's a look into my week of review whiplash... MICKEY 17 is great. It might be weird and have a dark sense of humor, but I think Bong has made a pretty easily digestible sci-fi movie, with a ton of interesting ideas buried inside it. I also laughed a lot screenrant.com/mickey-17-mo...
