mass effect 2 was lightning in a bottle. cracking plot, galactic political intrigue, fun combat. but let's be honest: we all replay it for the characters. the "recruitment mission/loyalty mission" quest structure has influenced how i've thought about designing companions ever since.

ff6 showed me what fantasy was capable of. a sweeping, elegant world inspired by industry and opera instead of the medieval reference points i'd always bounced off before. 32 years on, i still think it's the blueprint for how to write a huge main cast and get players invested in every character.

the nancy drew series got me into video games and i'll talk anyone's ear off about it. they had it all: puzzles, point-and-click adventure kitsch, edutainment that felt organic, engrossing atmosphere. i don't know how i'd pull it off, but i'd love to make something like them someday.
