Tonight at 7:00 PM JST, I'll be attempting to master the timing of Issen in Onimusha. You should join me as I either fail, or succeed, spectacularly!

Oh hey, my birthday is in a couple of weeks... I didn't get to really celebrate it last time for a couple of really heavy reasons. Going to try and not let that shadow loom over it this year, though it's probably going to be pretty difficult to ignore. I'll do my best!

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.

Whenever my health fails me and I have to cancel a stream, I feel just awful. I know my community and fans would want me to take care of myself, but I just feel like I'm letting them down. Gods I hate brain worms...

Guess I just wanted to share a little bit of learning about life in a country that speaks a completely different language than your own. It's interesting, and I hope I can get better at the language so I can enjoy more of what's here!

Services that exist in North America and Europe simply just don't exist here in Japan 'cause of licensing. Sure VPN's can help, but it doesn't always work (as a lot of apps and shows are starting to wise up to it!)

I'm not complaining, I suppose I'm just expressing it was a bit of an "Oh, I guess that makes sense." moment for me. I'm studying Japanese every day to hopefully lessen this gap. People always ask me if I've watched any good anime lately. Problem is, most of it I cannot understand.

150

Akami @akamihebiko.com · 26/08/2026

I guess as extreme majority of the people living here speak the language, it makes sense to only have that as a subtitle option. It's rare to find a show that has English subtitles, let alone English dub (don't at me here, sometimes I'm not actively watching and using a show as background noise!)

140

Akami @akamihebiko.com · 26/08/2026

I know enough Japanese to get by, but not enough to really sit and follow along with a story of a TV show of a movie. So it was very surprising when I first got here, and turned on the subtitles of an anime and only found one option: Japanese.

Akami @akamihebiko.com · 26/08/2026

It's very common for shows aired in the west to have support for a myriad of languages, whether that is through a dub over of the audio, or translated subtitles! You can go into many shows and find different audio tracks or subtitles for many languages.

Having lived in Japan for 2 years now, there's one thing that I definitely took for granted about living in North America, and that is multilingual support for media consumption. A Thread:

I'm just genuinely curious 'cause it feels like I'm tripping over a new one of these announcements every other day and it's feeling like the dawn of a friend-slopocalypse with all these announcements and no actual games to play.

2130

Akami @akamihebiko.com · 15/07/2026

Ok, be patient and educate me if needed, but... Is it wrong to think that all the recent "play with friends" games we call friend-slop announcing that they're coming soon is kind of bad? I feel like a lot of the games that were popular just came out of no where with no lead up or announcements.

My friends once proposed the hypothetical super power choice of never needing to sleep again or never needing to eat again. They chose eating 'cause they liked sleep so much...but I argued that choosing to not need sleep as a superpower would net so much time back...I wish I didn't have to sleep

It's the first father's day without my father and it's a surreal feeling. He wasn't a good person, but he was still my dad. He didn't know the real me, or what I did on the internet. He would probably be repulsed by it all...but he was still my dad. Lot of mixed feelings on it all I guess...
